In the race for attorney general out here in the Golden State, the Field Poll released on Friday found that the Republican candidate, Los Angeles District Attorney Steve Cooley, leads the Democrat, San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris, by 37 to 34 percent.

According to the Sacramento Bee, Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo

said it is unusual for a Republican to hold a lead in Democratic-leaning California in the early stages, when neither candidate is well-known.

"Unusual?" It's perfectly astonishing. More or less the only fact that voters can possibly know about either candidate yet is his political party. And voters prefer the Republican? In California? I'd gotten used to the idea that the November election could prove historic. Now it's starting to shape up as very nearly miraculous.

I doubt very much that even California voters could suspend disbelief long enough to put a San Francisco politician into statewide office. They might be dumb but they're not crazy. Not that crazy anyhow.

Maybe all the snaps of Kamala attending White House state dinners has become a liability?

The Weekly Standard is linking to a new poll showing Fiorina overtaking Boxer. Hope! Change!
