Big news! Turkey, Jordan mark Nakba Day

Hundreds of Turks gathered in Istanbul and Ankara Sunday, answering the call of local Islamist organizations to mark "Nakba Day"– the "catastrophe" of Israel's inception.

In Istanbul, about 150 demonstrators marched to the Israeli Consulate, shouting "Damn Israel" and "get ready Israel, the Mavi Marmara is coming."

Oh, yes, and this happened:

Biggest protests anyone can remember here--against censorship. Oh, and this, too:

There were 10,000 members of the Turkish Union of Engineers’ and Architects’ Chambers, or TMMOB, gathered in Ankara on Sunday to rally for their rights.

“Unpublished books are being confiscated. Methods are being sought to discipline the Internet. Everyone is being watched and listened to. Instead of democracy, we are headed toward a more oppressive authority. This is a huge detention system,” said TMMOB chairman Mehmet Soğancı, calling the recent developments the “September 12 referendum regime.”

No point in anyone noticing that, though, it's not really that interesting compared to a handful of Nakba Day protesters.
