Lies & Lying Liars
First, we get to hear some behind-the-set chatter from Senator Chuck Schumer, who was on a conference call this morning and didn't know that reporters were listening in. From today's DC Examiner:
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., a member of the Democratic Senate leadership, got on a conference call with reporters Tuesday morning without realizing the reporters were already listening in. Schumer thought he was on a private line with four Democratic senators who were to talk with reporters about the current budget stalemate.
Schumer instructed the group, made up of Sens. Barbara Boxer of California, Tom Carper of Delaware, Ben Cardin of Maryland and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, to tell reporters that the GOP is refusing to negotiate.
He told the group to make sure they label the GOP spending cuts as "extreme."
"I always use extreme, Schumer said. "That is what the caucus instructed me to use."
Someone must have finally told Schumer that the media were listening and he stopped talking midsentence.
Well at least we now know what it takes to get Schumer to shut up.
The words "Schumer" and "stopped talking midsentence" have never appeared together, anywhere, anytime.
And then later today, from Jim Pinkerton's excellent blog, Serious Medicine Strategy, comes this, from Laura Ingraham's show:
Mediaite's Alex Alvarez catches this damning admission from former Indiana Senator Evan Bayh; Obamacare doesn't do anything to control healthcare costs:
"The real issue [says Bayh] that was not addressed, Laura, that you’ve raised now, and I think appropriately, is the cost, the cost to both the government and to your listeners. We need to take steps now to get the costs of health care under control. That was not dealt with really in an aggressive way in this legislation. I think it now needs to be."
Obamacare was supposed to control health care costs. That was a major reason for the drama and the wailing when it passed.
Could it be that the same folks who misled us about Obamacare are now trying to mislead us about "extreme" budget cuts? I'm stunned.

Ha ha! I know most politicians are a slimey lot, but I can't recall ever taking a thing Schumer has said seriously. Not once.

The purpose of all Democrat Party rhetoric is to remind the vast hoards of dependents (on government) exactly who they're dependent on. Truth rarely enters into the equation.

Re: Lies & Lying Liars
It's like a "dagger in the heart" of Democrat talking points.

Re: Lies & Lying Liars
Very revealing, Rob. Thanks for posting this.
You know, the interesting thing is that we always imagine a conspiracy amongst most of the MSM and the Dems, either implicitly or explicitly. I wonder how many of the people who listened to this would normally have kept mum about this if they hadn't worried that someone else might leak it. A lot hinges on who those reporters were.

A few years ago this little joke was making the rounds:
Q: "What's the most dangerous place in Washington, D. C.?
A: "Between Chuck Shumer and a microphone."

Re: Lies & Lying Liars
So what? He's a Democrat and a politician. We give him a pass because we expect it from him and it's really not so unbelievable. His side sees it as the dirty work they expect on their behalf and even applaud it.
I wish it were 200 years ago and someone with principles would challenge him to a duel or give him a sound thrashing. Where is moral outrage anymore?

Schumer is so snake-like. He's definitely a Slytherin.

Re: Lies & Lying Liars
I tend to really have a lot of faith in the good sense of everyday American people. But when they keep electing scoundrels like Schumer, Boxer and the rest of that gang my confidence is shaken...

Re: Lies & Lying Liars
Why isn’t our side charging Democrats as EXTREME with Trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see? Why isn’t our side fighting as vociferously as the union thugs in Wisconsin? Where is the leadership of the Republican party fighting for what we believe? Has the Tea Party movement run out of steam?

Re: Lies & Lying Liars
Nobody cares what the good Senator from New York says except the good Senator from NY. Unfortunately calling all things Republican "extreme" is Propaganda The big lie that if not constantly denounced and defended against gets treated as the truth.
Ask George Bush. He didn't defend and the big lies stuck. The problem is lies are easy as the article so clearly demonstrates and defense is harder, much harder. Ask Sarah Palin.

"I always use extreme, Schumer said. "That is what the caucus instructed me to use."
A lock-step, non-thinking automaton following directives from on high? Surely not an independent-minded Democrat beholden only to his conscience!
John France: "The problem is lies are easy as the article so clearly demonstrates and defense is harder, much harder. Ask Sarah Palin."
The problem isn't just that lies are easier to spread than the truth, an even thornier problem for the right is that the message doesn't reach far beyond the choir. In spite of the MSM's resistance, I do think that the charge of 'racist' has lost much of its impact and I hope the meme of Republicans as "extreme" mean-spirited tight-wads goes the same way. I'm okay with 'happy, libertarian tight-wads' though.
