The Daily Caller's Mickey Kaus and The Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin celebrate their both show by addressing many of your concerns about Jennifer's bracingly honest assessments of the candidates over the past few months. Then, they debate whether or not Gingrich was actually a lobbyist, has Obama abandoned the white working class, then Mickey points out something the government does do well, and Jennifer explains why the Senate is going to be really fun place to watch.

Is it just me, or did anyone else keep wondering what in the heck they were talking about as they were getting all misty-eyed about Republicans looking more willing to compromise?  Who are the Republicans supposed to compromise with?  Harry Reid?  Nancy Pelosi?  Obama?

We had two years of every bone-headed, idiotic idea the Democrats could dream up being shoved down the throats of the country, and no one said "boo" about them compromising.

Rubin was so tickled that the Republicans might actually be willing to surrender on something that she never even stopped to address whether there was anything on the table worth compromising WITH.

This obsession over coming across as nice is one of the main reasons the government has grown into the behemoth it is.  Democrats demand huge growth, Republicans suggest some growth.  Republicans are pilloried for wanting to shrink the government (which they aren't even suggesting).  Republicans compromise on just big, not huge, growth.  The Democrats go out screetching about the heartless Republicans, then come back next year and get the rest of what they wanted during the next round of the fiasco.

This, apparently, is to be praised by Rubin.

Amazing.

I mean, surely Rubin doesn't really think the Democrats will ever negotiate in good faith, does she?  Where's the evidence for that?

I'm not sure what world Jennifer Rubin lives in, but I don't recognise lots of it.

Wow! Mickey doesn't like Fox News because it is a top down run organization on issues? And to think that the NYT, Washington Post, NBC and CBS are run so much differently. I am sure Punch, GE, Comcast and the rest are completely innocent of any interference. Too much sun Mickey.

I'm beginning to seriously consider whether Jennifer is a liberal plant. Judging from her twitter feed more so than her podcasts with Mickey, she's the Mikey of Republican electoral politics--she hates everyone. I've never before seen someone so willing to lead a circular firing squad on the right. I half expect candid shots of her at a pajama party/sleepover with Debbie Wassermann Schultz to be released...

Horrible podcast.  And the fact that Rubin is promoted by this site made me decide to cancel my subscription.  I know the intention here was to balance left & right, but was it really necessary to pair the moderate center-right Mickey with such a deeply unpleasant left-liberal?  Rarely have I heard someone who purports to be on the Right speak with greater condescension toward ordinary conservatives, or exude such undeserved complacency as to her reasons.

Conservatives during the debt negotiations offered a mere cocktail umbrella's worth of resistance to a darkening hurricane of nation-wrecking government profligacy, but Rubin derides them as know-nothings who just pig-headedly refuse to make deals, for their unwillingness to 'compromise' by allowing the Dems to send a few new gusts in the opposite direction in the name of balance.  The overall gale goes unremarked - and has to, of course, when one affects to be a sane moderate while self-servingly selling out one's own.

Quoted for truth.

I find myself deleting it every time iTunes downloads an episode.

Everyone is up in arms about Rubin (with just cause, I might add), but Kaus is as much of a hack as she is.  Patting each other on the back about how wonderful and moderate they are every time they utter something truly idiotic.

Each of them alone is horrid enough, but putting them together is unlike anything I've ever witnessed before.  I can only liken it to watching a boring train wreck, if such a thing could exist.

Have to agree with alot of what the other commenters have written.

Basically when Kaus said that Fox was not a true journalistic endeavour as it was top down from what Ailes or Murdoch said was grotesque. Really...the rest are independent thinkers sticking it to the man without interference?

You two will be lucky to make it to 20 podcasts.

These comments will only serve to fuel Rubin's contempt for conservatives, but hey, tough petooties!

I too was appalled at the condescension and the arrogance coming from Rubin. As well, this woman, who I'll admit is extremely smart, is throwing the word "conservative" around way too liberally, and I do mean that both ways.  She refers to herself as a conservative, but she really means she's a Republican. Republicans can be conservative and conservatives can be Republican, but there are Republicans who are not conservative, and Rubin is one of them.

News flash for Jennifer: If you can't get your "independent" friends to vote for Newt or Perry over Obama, they aren't independent. Why is that you ask? Well, Obama is a socialist. (Yes, and I mean that) Furthermore, they won't vote for Romney either - the mainstream media will provide enough justifications for them to go with their man Obama, we saw that in 2008 with McCain.

Your "Independent" friends are willing to vote for a lazy, incompetent socialist over an imperfect capitalist. They are either profoundly stupid politically or they are merely Democrats who just aren't totally thrilled with Obama.

After reviewing the newsbusters post here  ("...what they see as the liberal media"? Really?) I have unfollowed @jenrubinblogger on twitter and will not be reading whatever she has to write, nor will I be listening to whatever it is she has to say. If you can't bring yourself to admit and to say that the media is indeed biased to the left, there is little hope for you. Like's too short to pay attention to people who damage the very cause they say they champion.
