This was in the news a few days ago, but I only just noticed it. Apparently, Adam Andrzejewski called Lech Walesa and explained who, exactly, the Occupy Wall Street people were:

At the Lech Walesa Institute Foundation in Warsaw, they were thankful to receive this information.

Based on our discussion and intervention, President Walesa is not going to get involved with the OWS.  He is not comfortable with the “organizations” behind the movement.  It was not a difficult discussion.

I'd love to have listened in on that one.

Almost a shame he was headed off at the pass, though. It would have been priceless to see his face when he spotted those hammer-and-sickle flags.

I still think he could have addressed the occupiers.

How do you say "get a job, hippie" in Polish?

Or maybe we'd see Lech Walesa nurturing his inner-Hulk at the sight of the Communists flags. Lech smash!!!

You wouldn't like Lech when he's angry.

Some good news. I remember reading that Lech was sympathetic to the OWS and a little bit of me died, then. I think though now I see some signs of life.

Lech Walesa is unquestionably one of the great men of the twentieth century, and I'm glad to see that he remains the principled freedom lover that led his country in the fight against totalitarianism.  He's one of the four people who directly toppled the most evil empire in world history, and we all owe a debt of gratitude to him.
