Learning from the Tea Party
Apparently, the left has been paying attention. From The Hill:
Democratic strategists believe their Tea Party moment has arrived.
One labor organizer said that members have been urged to attend congressional town hall meetings to ask Republican lawmakers “pointed questions” about the cuts they supported last week.
“We are targeting various House Republicans in town hall meetings during the recess to let them know these budget cuts are beyond the pale,” said the labor source, who added that it has been difficult to mobilize supporters to public question-and-answer sessions with lawmakers because “they’ve been pretty circumspect in giving out information about the meetings.”
Justin Ruben, the executive director of MoveOn.org, a progressive advocacy group, has also encouraged members to grill lawmakers at town hall meetings.
Good. Let's have it out. I look forward to the tracking polls, which should be delivering public opinion data throughout the weekend and next week. My gut is telling me that Scott Walker is the most popular politician in America, and that the protestors in Madison are steadily losing the American center. But that's what my gut is telling me. Their guts are telling them something else. So, let's find out who's winning.

Re: Learning from the Tea Party
Remember, it's all about the Messaging. So this is perfect. Apparently, you can just pitch any half (um) baked idea to the unwashed, and the people will vote for you in droves.
Sometimes, it's difficult to restrain oneself from giving these people advice.

Well, our guts are aligned. Not to go all Presidential, but "Bring it on."

So Rob, can we expect you to rise up in all your squishy glory and attend a Tea Party counter-protest this weekend?

Re: Learning from the Tea Party
There are dozens of youtube videos of Chris Christie taking questions from crybaby leftists and giving them answers that expose their childish greed and make Christie look good. Any congressmen holding these town hall meetings could watch those videos over and over and be well prepared to whack the moles one by one.

Re: Learning from the Tea Party
Political dialogue is healthy and should be encouraged. The Tea Party, and others, should encourage individuals who have an interest in the political process to exercise their right to free speech, on the Left as well as the Right. Referring to people you disagree with politically as "unwashed" is demagoguery at best.

Whack - A - Mole. Love it!
I get daily e-mails from Moveon.org urging me to attend this and prostest that. They certainly try to rile up their supporters. It's going to be interesting seeing them try to be polite and respectrul in their questioning. Forceful and confident is good, but these lefties tend to be shrill & badgering.
Re: Learning from the Tea Party
I don't do protests. So noisy. Unless there will be Girl Scout cookies.

Not fair. Chris Christie is a rare talent. That's like saying I could watch a video of Frank Sinatra over and over and then go out on a stage and sing "I've Got You Under My Skin." I could do it, but you probably wouldn't enjoy it.

Christie is good - no question, but all you have to do is have facts available and be willing to push back. Most Republicans don't know how to go on offense. That is all Christie is really doing. By the way that's what Dems do all the time, often quite badly. Even when they do this badly it seems to be more effective than being defensive. When you have truth on your side, I say attack!

Re: Learning from the Tea Party
On learning from the best:
If you want to learn to do something, whether it is knitting a sweater, frying shrimp or arguing a case to a jury, you don’t want to emulate the average practitioners of the trade. You can learn the most from those who are the best at what they do. Don’t ever be put off by thinking you can’t be as good as they are. It doesn’t matter. You’ll be better by learning as much as you can from the best. If I were a congressman and worried about the snarky questions I’d be getting from barking mad lefties, I be watching Christie videos and doing my best to emulate him. I’d go to Christie’s town meeting and press conferences to watch him work.
I’ve watched Gerry Spence hypnotize a jury. When he’s done with them they do exactly what he asks them to do. I’ll never be Gerry Spence. So? I’m better that I would be otherwise.
Republicans need all the learning they can get.

OK, you've talked me into it. I'll be doing my Sinatra tribute act at a club near you soon.

Re: Learning from the Tea Party
You’re going to watch that Sinatra video first, right? At least 50 times and practice in front of a mirror too, right? If you do that I think you’ll sound pretty good.

If your opponent wants to commit suicide, get out of his way. A public tantrum vs. logical debate? Oh please, we couldn't ask for more. It will be like debating a fifth grader. Briiing it!

Re: Learning from the Tea Party
The problem for the Leftists is that they won't be able to resist showing up in uniform t-shirts identifying their membership in particular special-interest groups. It'll look like what it is: astroturfing.
