Law Talk with Epstein and Yoo #6: Jordan and Pippen
This edition of Law Talk with Epstein and Yoo marks a major milestone in the history of the show: our intrepid host Troy Senik achieves a heretofore believed impossibility by rendering Richard Epstein speechless after congratulating him on winning the Bradley Prize. We then move on weightier questions: Should we have captured Bin Laden rather than kill him? Should Title IX finally be repealed? Why is the United States Supreme Court ruling on the status of Jerusalem? What is Originalism and why should we care about it? And what pair of former NBA stars are the best metaphor for Al-Qeda's leadership? Well, we gave that one away with the title. Nevertheless, the Ricochet Faculty Lounge is now open and Professor Epstein is buying. Come on in!
It's the law: you must be a Ricochet teammate to listen to or subscribe to this show. Join today!

Re: Law Talk with Epstein and Yoo #6: Jordan and Pippen
The thing about the refusal of the US State Department to recognize Jerusalem births as having been in Israel is that all the major hospitals in Jerusalem are in the part of the city which has been in Israeli hands all along. The part that was never occupied by the Jordanians. The part that everyone but the Arabs consider part of the Jewish state.
What, you say? Even Hadassah Mt Scopus, at the eastern end of the city? Yes, even there. This was the original Hadassah Hospital and although it - and the neighboring orginal campus of the Hebrew University - was detached from the rest of Jewish Jerusalem for nineteen years, it never ceased being a part of Jewish Jerusalem. Convoys went up and down every couple of weeks to maintain a presence even though Mt Scopus was not accessible to the general public..
When the area was cleared of murderers in 1967, Hadassah and the University were free to rebuild their original facilities and make them available to the entire population, Jews, Arabs and others. Even this part of Jerusalem was never under Arab control.
My son's US documents just say "Jerusalem."

Excellent podcast. Listened to it . . . twice. I could listen to Mr. Epstein and Mr. Yoo talk about legal issues all day. I think what is most interesting is how they can agree on the topics but come to their opinions through different lines of reasoning. They are both WAY too smart for me . . .
