And her name is probably something like Sister Mary Gallagher. Ugh. The failure of the TSA to exercise even a dose of common sense is not only exasperating, but it's frightening. I don't have confidence that they can actually keep us safe.

The simpler solution is to ask sister to recite an article of the Catholic faith from memory. If she's a jihadi plant, well, game over. If she's not wearing a traditional habit, she'll probably start ranting about Pope B16 and JPII repressing women.

I am surprised the person taking the photo wasn't arrested. Law enforcement around the country have harassed and confiscated property from people lawfully recording their actions. It's one of the few instances where I actually find myself agreeing with the ACLU.

Thank God my job requires no travel. This is nonsense I would not stand for, and I've never heard a good thing about a TSA holding cell.

Is there any data that says such insulting practices actually help keep us safe or do they just make us feel better and provide jobs for government minions?
New rule, no searching nuns in habits until one of them hijacks a plane. Until we start educated profiling we won't be 'safe'. It's just statistics.

I have represented quite a few people who were arrested for voicing their opinion about someone else's arrest they witnessed.
Worst one ever was a guy who sat quietly and waited for the other incident to be over as the police began to leave. He then began complaining about what he saw from his own sidewalk, and was arrested for not listening to the officer who ordered him to go back in his house (the officer was free to leave himself as the other matter was over).
The Judge said the arrest was OK as part of the officer's "peace-keeping function."
That one never sat well with me.
Someone mentioned it on another thread and it's true: The lower levels of government can exercise the most power over you.

There are several organizations that are advocating a National Opt Out Day on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the idea being to overwhelm the TSA at the 65 airports where full body scanners operate.

The officer might have thought the veiled lady was just another wacky air-pirate in a burka...or maybe the officer was just seeking her sacred blessing. I always assume the best in people...especially dumb people.

When they threw away my 4oz bottle of conditioner, I realized that they don't actually KNOW how to keep us safe...but I'm pretty sure frisking nuns isn't the way. Which is unfortunate, cause I was hoping my nun costume would help me get through security quicker on all the upcoming holiday flights. Here's a question, though: will a burqa work a little better for me? After all, it's got to be a violation of the wearer's religious "freedom" to be groped in public by strangers...

It's easy to snicker at something like this but don't judge a book by it's cover. Printer cartridges using PTEN instead of ink comes to mind.
