You know what? All day today, this site has been hoppin'. From the infallibility of the Pope to the fallibility of the Speaker, from liberal assaults on the Constitution to Obama's coming tax hikes, from Les Mis to Dostoyevsky's "Gambler,"--honestly, folks, I have only a single complaint. You're all so darned interesting that you're making it terribly difficult to settle down in this new year and get back to work.

Ricochet rocks.

I wanted to start off the New Year right and be underemployed and over the cliff.

My only complaint is that we've been a bit too hot (i.e., uncivil).  I've seen serial ad hominem attacks, use of vermin as honorifics, and too many petty outrage cascades to count.

I am, however, too bloody tired to post coherently about it.

I think everyone's just excited to be ringin' in the New Year.

Peter, I too must get back to work, planning the month for my middle schoolers. Quickly, have you ever interviewed former US flag officers for UK episodes? I'd like to see someone like GEN John Abizaid, Gen Richard Myers, or GEN Martin Dempsey (when he's done). I don't have a specific line of questioning other than their takes on the war a few years hence. Thanks for your work, especially the thoroughly interesting Justice Scalia piece. Happy new year.

Someone mentioned vermin, so there could be a mouse to hunt.

About three years ago now, I interviewed former Army vice chief of staff Jack Keane, one tough and impressive hombre.

We'll keep trying for more, but there's a problem with the top brass.  Generals and admirals tend to be very, very careful about what they say.  Admirable though the trait may be, it tends to make them reluctant to sit down for full-dress interviews.  But as I say, we'll keep trying.

Should have asked Boehner for a billion or two before the "cliff deal." I'm sure he would have obliged.

Yes, they tend to be very careful, unless they have an agenda (ADM Fallon's GQ-interview Centcom resignation notwithstanding). Take care.

And speaking of excited...in the "You can keep Levin" thread a geek "measuring" contest is in progress.  Thank goodness there's not a XX within a thousand comments.

Past time to sign off.

Are you sure you're not just stupid?

;)

Seriously, though.  Maybe I'm just missing some of it.  The only one I've been involved with was the Pope convo, and actually, for as closely as we hold our respective beliefs, I feel like the Catholics and Protestants have been engaging in very civil - while heated - discussion.  You should hear me argue with friends over Superman vs. Goku.

I've got to disagree.  While there is much in the news that is dispiriting, and upon which the Contributors have waxed verbose, there has been nothing the least bit surprising in the last week.  I scan Ricochet in vain looking for something that is actually interesting.

Yes, Tom. If you can't tangle with the cat, you should at least have a go with the papists. Surely there's something you can object to in 2,000 years of Church history.

I, for one, am in complete agreement with Peter. I've been almost entirely unproductive today, and it's all Ricochet's fault!

The smartest decision I made in December 2012 was to join Ricochet.  It's ALL good, every last teensy bit.  Gives me something to look forward to when I get home from work.

@Ryan -- The infallible post got to a better place, though it was I thinking of when I mentioned "outrage cascades." There were a few times that Severely had made amends that were pointedly not accepted. That's just as bad as the attacks and name calling IMO.
