Desperate times call for . . . well, desperate acts.

Obama White House translation: we're just the same as ordinary folks, as the picture below attests -- FLOTUS, killing it at Target

Watch for plenty of these cheesy photo-ops over the next 13 months (and wasn't it a neat coincidence that an AP photographer just happened to be on the scene?).

I give this one "O" on the 1-10 O's scale of political desperation.

Any thoughts of other photo stunts we can soon be expect from President and Mrs. Sixpack?

How do we know the store hadn't been emptied of actual customers and instead populated with plainclothes Secret-Service agents?

I had an email from Mrs. Nanny State in Chief and I posted my diplomatic response over in Member Feed if you'd like to have a gander.

We'll know we've won when Obama buys a ranch and relaxes by clearing the cedar undergrowth from the forested areas.

Rub black shoe polish on a front tooth and red lipstick on the back of the neck, then get lessons from James Carville for the accent and from John Kerry on how to ask for a huntin’ license?

An RV tour won’t work because she refused to ride in it last time.

Next trip to the checkout counter, go with George H. W. Bush—that scanner thingymajigger will cost them the election.

This is the Target two miles from my house. Which explains all of the security detail from earlier today ...

I have always thought it was interesting that the first lady is almost always more poular than the president and I suppose that is still true but I have been underwhelmed by Michelle Obama's effort to engage in the public discource and establish her own identity. Being the first black first lady may be more difficult in some ways than being the the first black president but I don't think it helps her image to wear a ball cap while waiting for the blue light special.

Maybe we'll see the Obama version of this memorable Kerry, every-man moment.

You know, this whole scheme only makes a splash in a Prince and the Pauper sense and that only works if there is a real Prince.  You know, someone who is better than the rest of us, different by blood and breeding.  To me, this screams, "I am consenting to be seen with you filthy animals!"

So long as they don't take to visiting the same place too often they can do what they want and even come off a bit more normal. But, I can say this. I live literally a sticks throw away from Obama's Hyde Park residence and every time he is in town my parking space diminishes and all the buses are rerouted by my front door. Peoples thrill at seeing the president and first lady will wear thin when their security details clash with your normal everyday living.

Michelle's just one of the folks, see. She shops at Target (I'm sure she pronounces it Tar-JEH) too. Sure she takes lavish vacations. But then, don't all folks holiday on the Vineyard and the Costa del Sol? Those callous Republicans must. After all, they'd prefer to play with the rich and famous rather than pay their fair share in taxes.

Post from a friend of mine on Facebook:

The First Lady at Target? I do not think I have ever seen, heard, or known of any other First Lady who would grace a large chain store (unless it was a photo op or campaign type event). I am actually thrilled .... A REAL person!!!

So at least one person bought it…

Just delete the word "other" and it's still true!

I was going to ask if it were the Target in Martha's Vineyard.

If this is an effort to appear to be one of the hoi polloi, shouldn't this be a WalMart?

I wonder if they know its nickname is the $100 Store?

Wait, they have Target stores on Martha's Vineyard?

[Yah, Percival beat me to it, but I couldn't resist.]
