Imagine you have been chosen to host a single question Presidential debate between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. Your task is to craft a question that will prompt an answer that most clearly reveals the true colors of each candidate.

This debate will be broadcast nationwide. You will ask only one question and each candidate will have as much time as they need to respond (Let's assume that each candidate has sworn an oath to actually answer your question and only answer your question. A political fantasy.)

You will also want to avoid the appearance of leading or trapping the candidates, as any unfair question will tip the balance away from your intention.

What is your question?  And why do you ask?

Which Catwoman?

Ginger or Maryann? Or Mrs Howell?

Agent Scully or Agent Dunham?

Hot Tub or Mud Wrestling?  Or Nude Wrestling in a vat of Creamed Corn?  That happened!  A club in Florida resorted to it when the whole mud wrestling thing was starting to lose audience.

Would a singular pronoun like "that" more properly agree with a plural antecedent like "roads and bridges" or a singular antecedent like "business"?

Mr. President. In 2009 you said "If I don't get this done in three years, this is gonna be a one term proposition." So, like, why are you still here?

Which classes of problems are beyond the competency of government to address?

Or maybe:

If a chicken and a half can lay an egg and a half in a day and a half, how long would it take three chickens to lay three eggs?

The first question would probably put Obama into a fugue state.  The second one would have him whimpering "I was told there would be no math."

Is this a unionized woodchuck?

Well, either way, the woodchuck didn't chuck that wood, the government did.

Everyone always says Mary-Anne. Really? Dim-bulb naïf vs. slinky worldy redhead schooled in the ways of the world? Doesn't matter - after a few years on the island it's probably not an either-or situation.I was have serious with the Betty versus Veronica question. Veronica is a 1% er, you know.

Definitely Veronica.  Then again, I like my women like I like my coffee: dark, bitter, and rich.

As we face a serious Federal budget deficit, would you end the Selective Service (The Draft) program?

If not, why do we need a program we have not used in almost 40 years?
