Just By Way of Contrast...

At this hour, the lead sentence in the lead story on the website of the New York Post:
Here's the sad fact about Rep. Anthony Weiner -- he's an Internet perv.
Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, pause to join me in three cheers--silent cheers, if you're at work; they'll still count--for the reporters and editors at the New York Post, who still know how to write a story like a story.

Re: Just By Way of Contrast...
"But Daddy, why can't I put funny pictures of me on the internet?"
"Well, there once was a momentarily famous congressman named Anthony Weiner ... he thought it would be really, um, funny, if he sent some pictures to some women." [Story cleaned up for younger readers.]
"Daddy, you must be making that up!"
No. Sadly, no.

Hi Peter. I generally don't criticize my superiors in punctuation, but I think you've inadvertently slipped an unintended comma just before "who still know ..."

Re: Just By Way of Contrast...
Pervert Weiner may be, but, in his congressional district, that evidently has positive selective value.
Re: Just By Way of Contrast...
I'm nobody's superior in punctuation. Just ask my kids, who correct me all the time. In this case, though, the comma is intentional. Absent the comma, I'd be suggesting cheers for a subset of reporters and editors--namely, the ones who still know how to write stories. With the comma, I'm asking for cheers for all the Post's reporters and editors.

I agree with the cheer for the subset, which was of course my intention. I feel the most progressive papers and media outlets have such a subset worth acknowledging.
