This summer, Ricochet is on a quest to grow our community of Members.  We’re looking for people just like you.

Amazon Kindle Fire

To that end, we are excited to announce that June 1st marks the beginning of a month-long Membership drive contest.

Previously, each Member could extend up to 10 invitations for free trial Memberships to like-minded friends.  But beginning today and running throughout the month of June, we’ll be lifting that cap so you can send out as many invitations as you’d like.  To make the effort worth your while, every 5 accepted invitations will earn you a signed copy of a book by one of Ricochet's Contributors.  And, each accepted invitation enters you into a drawing for the grand prize of an Amazon Kindle Fire.

To get started, click on the "Invite Friends!" link at the top right hand corner of your screen (you must be logged in to see it).  Enter the first names, last names, and e-mail addresses of your invitees and click "Send Invitations."  Your invitees will receive an e-mail from us with an offer code entitling them to a free 2-month trial to Ricochet.  Also, each accepted invitation will automatically enter you into the drawing for the Amazon Kindle Fire and count toward the attainment of a signed book.

Get started now!

Is that the secret to posting a story or comment on Ricochet from a tablet - it has to be a Kindle Fire? Since it is near impossible to do so from an iPad.

And a tote bag. Membership drives always include tote bags. It's a federal law.

And this thermos. Brent, I'm with you on the iPad. Oof.

How about the chance to win a dinner with Rob Long, Peter Robinson or James Lileks?  Seemed to work well for Obama.

Is it "opt in" or "opt out" after the 2 months?

I'm sorry about the difficulty posting on the iPad.  First of all, due to platform incompatibilities, we had to offer a plain-text only entry form for mobile devices.  Also, there's been a problem we've known about for a bit of time where iOS devices try to show both of the entry forms (the plain-text one and the rich-text one you see on a regular browser).

Does it help if you try posting with your iPad from m.ricochet.com instead of the desktop version of the site?  Both currently work for me.

And will you promise not to hector our invitees with persistent follow-up e-mails?
And promise not to sell, rent or otherwise share/disclose the e-mails of our invitees?

I assume the answer to both is a resounding, "YES!"

The answer is "Yes."

We only send them an email when you create the invitation; and again later only if you click the "Resend" button (available because some people lose their invitation emails).  In other words, all contact from Ricochet to your friends and family is initiated by you.

If they never sign up with us, they will not receive another email from us; and their email address is never shared with anyone.

Your invitees will have full Member privileges for free, for 2 months, without entering their payment information.

At the end of 2 months, if they like Ricochet enough, they can enter their payment information; or if not, they can simply let their account lapse to Guest status.

If they ever regret not continuing their Membership, they can still log in and update their payment information to reactivate their Member privileges.

I've found posting from a BlackBerry Playbook on the mobile site works very well. I suppose the trade off is that the manufacturer may not exist this time next year....

Yay! I've had lots  of people that I wanted to invite to join Ricochet! The trouble has been picking which ones to invite. This makes it easy!

Oh dear... How am I ever going to make 5 friends in a month?

This is a great Idea and I have sent mine out.

I wish there were a way to pre-pay for an account for someone and send them that.

Still, two months should be enough to get them good and hooked!

Rob's spots on the flagship always worry me, because what would we do without Ricochet?
