UPDATE: Judith was obviously posting just as I was. I'll leave this up, because I want her to know that we follow what's going on and worry about her, specifically.

Sorry to ask this on Ricochet, but I figure everyone will want to know. For those of you who don't already know what happened, an anti-tank missile shot from Gaza hit an Israeli school bus, severely injuring a 13-year-old boy. That's not the usual Qassam rocket attack--an anti-tank missile is something you can really aim, so the intended target, not the accidental target, was a school bus. This was, obviously, a major and deliberate escalation. They followed that up by lobbing 45 mortars and rockets into southern Israel.

The Israeli response has obviously been ferocious, to judge from Twitterers in Gaza.

I'm following the news sick to my stomach. The good thing is the Iron Dome missile defense system--about which I was pretty skeptical--actually did intercept a Grad. That's historic.

God, if only I could just put an Iron Dome over the whole world and save it from all this absolutely pointless misery.

How the hell do you wake up one morning and think, "Hey, why don't I launch an anti-tank missile at an Israeli school bus? I bet I could kill a lot of kids that way, and succeed in bringing ruination and misery upon my benighted people! What a terrific idea! All the kids concerned will be traumatized forever. Maybe we can send some young Israeli soldiers home with serious psychological wounds, if not kill them outright. Now there's a plan for making the world a better place!"

Claire Berlinski, Ed.: God, if only I could just put an Iron Dome over the whole world and save it from all this absolutely pointless misery.

They tried something like that in Highlander II: The Quickening to save the world from ozone or something.  As I recall, it didn't work out so well.

Building an iron dome over Gaza, however, might be a pretty good idea.

A yellow school bus - Another new low for Hamas.

*sigh*  Anything I might add at this point would just violate the Ricochet Code of Conduct.  This stuff infuriates me.  Even more so that the Left continues to champion the Palestinians as the good guys and Israelis as the evil oppressors.

Any chance someone in Gaza took Mohamed ElBaradei's recent comments more as a suggestion than a warning?

During the middle stages of the Egyptian revolt against Mubarak, Geraldo Rivera described ElBaradei as a great man.  If even Fox News Channel employs so-called journalists that are this clueless, what hope is there?  Assad is a reformer, the Muslim Brotherhood is secular, the Iranians have a "right" to nuclear power and Colonel Qaddafi was apparently leading some sort of North African renaissance.  God help us all.  Please!

I'm not sure of the definitive and complete answer to your question, Claire, but on the best available evidence, it seems that part of the "how" is you study the Qu'ran with a particular brand of scholar.

By the way, apparently the Brazilian school shooter converted to Islam a couple of years ago.  Any connection between that and his subsequent acts of murder is, I am sure, purely coincidental.
