Judge Gets One Right

From the Los Angeles Times today:
Judge rules against Obama's deep-water drilling moratorium
Whenever I read anything beginning with the words, "Judge rules..." I usually clench my fists and take a deep breath in anticipation of some outrage against common sense. But sonofagun -- they got one right. Of all the dumb words and dumb actions that have followed the oil rig explosion, this moratorium was the dumbest.

I was quite pleased to see that headline on FoxNews earlier today. The administration has already planned to file an appeal. This was another opportunity for them to put their hand in the local economy. A chance for them to put people out of work, and then step in later to be their savior. Can't let something like that slip away, now can we? Funny how most of the people on the gulf coast would rather get back to an honest days work, than take handouts from Washington or BP.

Like you, I was shocked by the good news.
Unfortunately, I expect at least some rig owners have already taken their rigs out of the Gulf and leased them out in other parts of the world. Those rigs are leased for years, not weeks, so any that are gone won't be coming back now.

Nevermind... good news rescinded. This means all (or nearly all) deep water rigs will leave the Gulf. They will be re-committed to other areas, and deep water drilling will be effectively shut down for years.
It's nice to see the White House can get around a court ruling by simply repeating the order that was struck down. That's balance of power for you.
