Funny stuff- especially the line about picking up day laborers at the Barnes and Noble parking lot.

The time for this sort of send-up would have been when the exercise was first proposed by the Washington Post and the NYT.  The reason Stewart is ridiculing the effort isn't because he thinks it should not have been done (he would have said before it started) but because it backfired: not only did it fail to uncover anything embarrassing to Palin, it catalyzed press coverage praising her for how well she handled the office of Alaska Governor.

Stewart is mocking fellow Liberals for scoring an own goal.

I basically agree. And on some level he's covering for them by calling them out. This is harmless for them really, and Stewart can pretend to be a equal opportunity critic. But is is enjoyable to see the Stewart technique applied here anyway.

He has yet to realize how ridiculous are his Liberal positions - but it's a start.

I think Stewart did a fine job of exposing just how lame the lamestream media really is. Mockery, especially when it is obviously justified, can be devastating -- and this segment is devastating. The only thing missing is an examination of the media's out-of-control partisan bias. That would perhaps be too much to ask of Stewart.

My favorite line was the one about the 50 pounds of paper, at about the 3:30 mark.

I disagree, if his intent was to mock, which it was. He couldn't mock them when the exercise was first proposed, because he wouldn't have had any of the media clips that he used in his piece, and it's those media pieces that largely indict them. To mock the media when the exercise was first proposed was the job of serious columnists and commentators.  He, by contrast, had to wait.

Whether he waited because he didn't disagree with the premise is somewhat irrelevant; what's more relevant is the fact that he properly torched them because they deserved it.

The crowd seemed oddly silent.  I guess they can only raise a ruckus when Stewart is being his usual libbie self.

Perhaps if Stewart invites David Mamet to The Daily Show his conversion to rational conservatism can begin. I know, too much to hope for.
