Need I do more than present this image from the Sporting News that shows the covers of the two area tabloids?

Covers

Maybe I only love this so much because I used to work for the New York Post. Listening in on the editors' discussions about headlines and what would (or should) be that day's "wood" -- the topic and photos chosen for the front and/or back cover -- was to witness true (and often hilarious) genius.

For those not following football, Jets-Pats is a fierce rivalry. The rivalry has only gotten spicier with recent news that Rex Ryan and his wife may or may not get turned on by a little footsie. Needless to say, there's been a lot of chatter building up to tomorrow's divisional contest.

For fun, maybe some here would care to guess the winner, the final score, the hero and the goat? I'll go first, admitting that I only follow football when it gets fun and have no sound theories to back up any of my guesses:

Jets 17, Pats 10

Hero: Jets QB Sanchez

Goat: Belichick

The Patriots appear perfect. I hope they stay perfect until they lose to the Packers in the Superbowl but mean reversion will hit them eventually. Pats by 3 in last seconds.

Let me start by saying that it doesn't matter who wins this game, because my Bears are winning it all this year.

Second thing: those are two of the funnier headlines I've ever seen.

Lastly, my prediction for the Jets-Pats game (which has to be one of the most anticipated in recent memory):

Pats 24 - Jets17

Yeah, yeah, I know. I actually read Josh Hamilton's book over the Christmas holiday. Have you read it? Very interesting.

You know, truth is, since I've become a mom, my sports loyalties don't run nearly as deep as they used to. That kind of comment might have stung 10 years ago, but now I just enjoy the big games and kinda shrug off a NY loss. I prefer if they win, of course, but I don't get all riled up about it any more.

Aw, don't take the fun out of Me ribbin' Ya.

No, I haven't read His book. I'm sure He has lead an interesting Life.

As You know, A-Rod was the last out of the series. I heard this on a local radio show:

"Ten years ago The Rangers signed A-Rod in order to help send Them to the World Series.... and I'll be danged if He didn't finally do it."

That's a great quote! I'm no A-Rod fan, I'll tell you that.

See, I thought this was about the latest Star Wars prequel review.  I think it displays how NY Post headlines tap into all manner of mythical ur-consciousness.

OK, OK, the guy's wife may well have pretty feet (as her nic would suggest), and should wear sandals as often as seasonable.  It's a girl thing.  But criminy.  Splayed all over the tabloids?

Chumps from New England 17- chumps from Jersey 16.

Doesn't much matter, the Super Bowl just took place in Atlanta.

Pack wins out... easily.

Nobody stays within two scores.

Here I was thinking it was only women, and gay men that obsessed over shoes and their feet.

Patriots 24, Jets 17.

Sanchez throws 1 TD and 3 picks. Brady finally throws a pick but outplays the Jets.

Well, I suck the worst.  My estimate is close to backwards, but I also predicted Cromartie to be the Goat.  Cromartie ended the game for the Jets, with his fine return, and was among the heroes.

There were no real, standout heroes, that I saw.  What I saw was a team effort.  First and foremost, the Jets defensive line and linebackers mussed Brady's hair, all day.  Their offensive line gave Sanchez time and allowed some running.  But the Jets' secondary just gave Brady and his receivers fits, all day.  My vote for the game ball is the Jets secondary: the linebackers, safeties, and corners, that gave Brady and his receivers fits.  That makes my prediction the suckiest, as Cromartie had a fine day!
