Let's Trot Out These Pictures One More Time

Thewrap.com reports that Jane Fonda was about to have a big QVC launch for her new book but it was cancelled because of a protest about her based on "lies from the Right Wing." That could be true but her attempt to defend herself by saying "I have never done anything to hurt my country or the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for us" puzzles me. Lots of us have done things to hurt our country in varying degrees at one time or another in the folly of our youth. Why not just apologize and reach out to the other side, or own it?  Is it really only the Right Wing who were disgusted by her actions and words while with the enemy?

If she spent half as much energy getting to know middle America (i.e., the QVC audience) as she did North Viet Nam, she could sell a lot of things to them.

I have a lot to say on the subject of Jane Fonda. Sadly, there is the CoC.

Is there any way we can get her making commercials in support of Obamacare?

Jane Fonda's still alive?

Huh.

The CoC prevented me from posting better pictures as well. There's some good ones out there.

I have never been able to separate the personality from the presentation to a sufficient degree to appreciate those. The best I can do is to remember that she is degrading herself for the bourgeoisie to enjoy a good old fashioned American pay day.

Are you talking about the "Barbarella" days or the "Jane Fonda Workout" days?

If she'd actually managed to appear on QVC I know quite a few people who would've likely shot their own televisions.

How this woman was not kicked out of our country is beyond me.

My earliest memories involve my dad screaming in the middle of the night hopelessly trying to save some young kid in the MASH unit where he served.  I recall a conversation where some east coast intellectual was expounding on the benefits of Ms Fonda's trip to Vietnam.  The response this pontificator received is not fit to print here but the implications for the rapid demise of Ms Fonda or anyone who liked her were implied.

My first reaction: this is a plain, old fashioned publicity stunt.

Then I read the from the linked article where Jane says: "Many people have reached out to express how excited they were about my going onto QVC and hearing about my book."

That's what caused my second reaction: hilarious laughter.

What is "QVC?"

Lots of us have done things to hurt our country in varying degrees at one time or another in the folly of our youth.

Most people are not considered to be youths at the age of 34.  Sadly, this flower of Hollywood royalty shows no sign of adulthood as a septuagenarian.

How many times can she reinvent herself?:  daughter of Henry Fonda, Barbarella, fellow traveler with North Vietnam, supposedly serious movie star, exercise video star, wife of Ted Turner (Braves fan--good reason to not like them), born-again Christian, and now writer.

QVC sells things over TV.  How can the right wing keep that from happening?  I agree with KC.  This has the smell of a publicity stunt by a born again capitalist who wants to move her new product.

She is a truly distasteful human being.

Yeah, but most people at her age do not do things that hurt this country.  That's what makes her so objectionable, but also makes late converts to sensibility that eventually saw the error of their ways so repellent, to me.

Now that Mamet has finally become aware that he was a dupe, he will be of zero assistance to those that suffer under totalitarianism.  He will just be erased. then some individual 30 years from now may unearth his current writing and be changed, as he was when he finally opened his eyes to information that had always been available to him.  Thanks!

No, leave Fonda just as she is, making noise and getting attention.  More people will be exposed to her and be able to recognize her for what she was and is.  Better that, than to have her apologize and be wiped from the public record.

She sounds like Sheila Jackson Lee.

In recalling the potemkinesque visit she had with the prisoners of war in Hanoi, and how many of them palmed small messages to her when they shook her hand with her response being to accept them and then turned them over to the North Vietnamese.

She betrayed them once by being there, twice by acting sincere, and three times by turning over the notes to their guards so the beatings could be intensified. Three times surely would doom her to hell and she is bitching about a QVC book barker ?

Let us all hound her from all shows until she gives up and goes into some velvet hole of rancorous denial.

To deny and complain only means that she's insane. A fitting end to her career.

Now where's this guy who wants to be Secretary of State ? The one that faked injury to get enough purple hearts to get out of Vietnam ? What was that guy's name again ?

Perhaps if we win back the Senate and the Presidency, Ms. Fonda can still be tried for treason, since I believe there is no statute of limitations on it. Realistically, I don't think there's the political will to do so and it would result in a firestorm of controversy and inevitable Leftist street protests - doesn't mean it's not worth pursuing. Erika Holzer makes a compelling case that Fonda should have been and still could be tried for her acts to aid and comfort the North Vietnamese in her book

This is just standard fare from JFTCB.  She likes to gin up fake controversies to get attention.  We seem to be willing enablers.

I wonder how the current crop of useful idiots will be regarded in 30 years' time?
