Italy's Berlusconi to Resign
Mr Berlusconi's decision follows a vote on the budget in parliament, in which he appeared to lose his majority.
Both allies and opponents have been urging him to step down as Italy's debt crisis grows.
[...]
"Once this engagement is fulfilled, the prime minister will hand in his mandate to the head of state who will proceed with appropriate consultations, paying close attention to the positions and proposals of all political forces," President Napolitano said in a statement.
Mr Berlusconi had shown "his awareness of the implications of the results of today's vote" as well as "concern for the urgent need to give prompt answers to the expectations of European partners", Mr Napolitano added.

When we see them pry his cold, dead corpse out of the Palazzo Chigi then I might believe it.

He was pro-American, AFAIK, but otherwise his long-by-postwar-Italian-standards tenure was a missed opportunity, a bit like W. His critics say he was only pro-business in terms of his businesses.

Still, you could do worse than Silvo. (No, seriously. It was a campaign theme song of his. Which makes me wonder: why can't we have political commercials like that? Curse Cain and his scandals -- we got so close!)

Off to play grab-ass on the beach while wearing one of those ridiculous euro-speedo things while drawing a similarly ridiculous pension.
You sir, are living the life, and I salute you!
