Joseph Biden was elected to the US Senate in 1972.  And he's been acting
ridiculous ever since.

Just this week, Biden confused Virginia and North Carolina, telling
supporters in Virginia "we can win in North Carolina!"  The Virginians were
overheard saying, "Well, that's nice, but what about Virginia?"  He called
Congressman Paul Ryan "Governor."  And he catapulted us back decades in
comments he made about the auto bailout.  According to Biden, we're livin'
large in the 20th century, which is weird given that his campaign's slogan
is "Forward!"

But Biden's most egregious comment came mid-week, when he told a largely
black audience that Republicans were "gonna put y'all back in chains."  He
hails from Delaware, but you would never know it by the phony Southern
dialect he used.  It reminded me of when Hillary Clinton stood before a
black audience in a black church and, in a fake Southern dialect, quoted
Rev. James Cleveland's famous song: "I ain't nowheres tired, I came too far
from I started from.  Nobody told me that the road would be easy, but I
don't believe He brought me this far to leave me."

Bill Clinton and Barack Obama and other Democrats also have been known to
lapse into the phony accent to pander to black groups.  It's like listening
to Madonna try to speak with a fake British accent.  She's from Detroit.

What's infuriating about it is that they get away with the insulting
language and phony inflections and the bigotry they reveal.

When Biden blurted out his racist comment about the "chains," Obama--the
first black president!---raced to his defense.  The leftwing press covered
the remark but didn't pound Biden for its racist connotations.  Imagine if
this had been a white Republican. Imagine if this had been Mitt Romney or
Paul Ryan or Sarah Palin who had said that the Democrats wanted to put
"y'all back in chains."  The Left and their wingmen in the press would have
them running for their reputations...and their lives.

There have been some Democrats who have spoken out against Biden, including
the nation's first black governor, Virginia's Doug Wilder; Rev. Jesse
Jackson called Biden's comment "not helpful."  But their mild rebukes pale
in comparison to the sound and fury we would now be experiencing if a white
conservative had made the exact same statement.

But Joe (and Hillary and Bill and so many others) get away with their soft
bigotry because they are who they are and because they belong to the "right"
party and because the press protects them and because "It's just Joe being
Joe" or "Hillary being Hillary."

I think most Americans see through the hypocrisy and have had enough.  And I
think the widespread fed-upedness is going to help to feed a massive revolt
of the Great Silent Majority 2.0 sometime soon.  Say....on November 6.

One can hope! What a disaster, Biden. Even so, I think there's about a 0% chance Obama will replace him.

Monica I agree with you that it is infuriating in what they get away with but also the idiocy that is passed off as "just Joe" by some and "chatter" as I heard our illustrious president call it in an interview.

Between the president who can't string a coherent thought together without a tele-prompter, Pelosi who rambles with the syntax of Porky Pig and der fearless SML Harry Reid who when he speaks reveals he is obviously not one of the shinning lights of Las Vegas how do these people convince others they are worthy of their vote.

I'm convinced they don't want or need to replace him as I did feel at one time. He performs perfectly the task he is given. He says what they want him to say and exactly because he is "hapless Joe",  "Slow Joe" and the message is delivered as planned and he will remain untouched.

Also do you realize for a moment how dim our president would appear if he had someone like Ryan's stature on the ticket.

He makes BHO shine quite brightly indeed.

It's the John Stewart defense, "Don't hold me accountable, politically, I'm just a funny-man."

If Barry does make the switch, will we hear more of this?

(It's Hillary doing the James Cleveland speech Monica refers to above)

That funny you say that but I've been thinking the very same thoughts about President Obama. He has been taking his stand up routine - posing as a presidential campaign - coast to coast for the last eighteen months, dropping his pithy one-liners, charming the masses, insulating himself from any criticism all the while never actually governing nor having to present any policies with any purposeful depth.

This reminds me of Peggy Noonan's line:

He's running for president. But why? He could be president now if he wanted to be.

Biden isn't gaffe prone or a loose cannon. The man is an idiot.

I'll credit Rudy Guliani for saying it first.

The left has portrayed almost every GOP figure since WW2 as a moron, yet they want us to believe Biden has "gravitas".

You folks are just misinterpreting the facts.  Joe is actually very smart and always knows what he's doing.

Let's just take the comment about winning in North Carolina, for instance.  Joe knew where he was.  He was in a state with a lot of Federal employees just north of the North Carolina border.  So here's the sub-text:

Okay, guys, we need you to vote in Virginia come election day, but then we need you to make a little road trip and vote again a time or two down in North Carolina.  We can win North Carolina!  (Through enough voter fraud.)

Not really on point, but as a frequent traveller to the UK there is nothing more irritating than listening to an American trying to speak with a fake British accent.  Just because you are in the locale doesn't give you the license to try it.  (Well, I guess that was somewhat on point.)

It is always sensible to curb one's enthusiasm, but I think it is fair to say there are signs of a huge loss for Obama. It is being predicted by Dick Morris, who despite his acknowledged biases has a deep understanding of the political scene. And he is not the only one with that view. I believe Roger Kimball, an observer of keen insight and temperance,  has said much the same thing. Hints of a landslide  appear in the excited state of the conservative base, the enthusiastic crowds, the wave of contributions, the ratings for talk radio. The polls may not show it, and may never show it, if you assume as I do that people routinely lie to poll takers. I have read that it was only five days before the election that Jimmy Carter's pollsters told him he was going to lose.

Obama has a very slick machine and they know they are in trouble with signs pointing to increasing desperation.  I expect an extremely close election with plenty of cheating to have our win slimmer than I'd like.  Somebody should put a microchip and listening device on Harry Reid here in Nevada.

Remember that, while it stayed in the Union during the Civil War, Delaware was a slave state.  Because it remained in the Union, Delaware's slaves were not freed by the Emancipation Proclamation, and remained enslaved until the 13th Amendment was ratified in December of 1865.  Just some historical tidbits for the discussion.

It's funny that the same people who can detect a "dog whistle" when Newt calls Obama the "food stamp President" can't hear the screaming air raid siren when Biden cracks about "y'all in chains" to a mixed race audience in Danville, VA.

Funny you should bring that up, Dave.  When Biden was setting himself up for a 2008 run in the D primaries he came to Upstate South Carolina to speak to a civic group.  Amazingly, he bragged to the audience about the fact that Delaware was a slave-holding  state.

Apparently Slow Joe thought that the way to get electoral support in the South in the 21st Century is to be pro-slavery.  He said,  "Delaware (was a) slave state that fought beside the North. That's only because we couldn't figure out how to get to the South. There were a couple of states in the way."

The man is a complete moron.
