Now trending worldwide on Twitter is "#IsraelHates." Try this 140 character gem on for size, from someone who appears to be an Egyptian student:

@HammamAlagha нáммàм #IsraelHates Freedom, Democracy, The Free Voice! & Resistance.

Here's an American voice, and what's more, a Jewish one at that:

@LindaMilazzo LindaMilazzo #IsraelHates Jews like me who tell the truth about #Israel's crimes, inhumanity, supremacism & perverse influence over US foreign policy

But the good news is that there's a lot of dissent! When one Tweeter claimed that "#IsraelHates PEACE", @AG_Conservative (using my context clues I can infer that he is a conservative) said "by "PEACE" he means the killing of innocent women and children." Just for the sake of unambiguity, what happened here is that this "AG_Conservative" user laughed at someone who said that Israel hates peace.

Wow- I never realized how ugly this post would look when I decided to do it. But with all of the symbols and links, it's a complete mess. I apologize and I hope it's not too chaotic!

Anyway, what does Ricochet think? Is this nothing new? Is it worse than we thought? Or is it comforting to see a big number of supporters represented?

The hatred is nothing new at all.  One would have hoped the information age would lessen racism in all its forms yet now we just have racists socially networking.

Israel is the giant boogeyman for a very large part of our world.  Israel has also become a leftist talking point as prior to OWS the college socialists had to find somebody to protest and Palestinians became the cause celeb.   I do not need a friend to embrace Israel but I can say with certainty than anyone who hates Israel will not be a friend of mine.

The real question I have is how the next major war involving Israel plays out because it is going to be a doozie.

This is why I'm against the whole "anti-Semitic" label. Its weak. It sounds like a kind of medicine you'd get a prescription for ("get him some anti-biotics for that infection... add some anti-Semitics too").

I prefer to call such people what the really are. Jew Haters. Just say it straight up and out loud. These people... including Linda... hate Jews.

Near as I can tell, it is damned fools using pointless media to say damned fool things.

Basically, it is the same as any other day.

Soon enough the damned fools will discover a new hash tag to say damned fool things about via their pointless media.

The only thing Twitter has done is make the stupid things these people would say anyway available to a larger circle of idiots.

You are correct.  Ironic how the age of information spreads both ignorance and stupidity faster and more robustly than knowledge and awareness is promulgated by these gadgets we all own.

Yeah. Plus, I doubt too many people actually look to Twitter for substantive political thought- there was a whole lot of talking, but no one will likely have their minds changed from 140 characters. Especially with something as polarizing as Israel.

By the way, Twitter isn't pointless- let's say your dog is turning 5, and you want your favorite celebrity to tell Rufus "happy birthday!"

Without Twitter, you'd be lost.

Ethan, I usually ignore this kind of thing (it's so relentless), but for some reason this really stuck in my craw. I just put up a few responses on Twitter (I'm @levyjudith).

Heh.

I had a roommate in college that had a dog named Rufus.

American Bulldog.  Weighed ~140 lbs.  Vicious looking as hell.  Scared of his own shadow (and cats and thunder and especially the vacuum cleaner).

Also thought he was a lap dog (much to my and the couch's chagrin).

At any rate, Rufus is too dumb to appreciate a celebrity call out on his B-Day (if we even knew when that was), and I suspect he doesn't have many B-Days left anyway.

We would all survive just fine without Twitter.

The single useful thing I have seen people do with Twitter is that food trucks use it to let their clientele know where they'll be in the next few minutes.

THAT is a truly useful tool that has to be real-time in order to work.

But otherwise, it's mostly useless idiocy.

Yeah, Twitter has been a great tool in the rising Islamist tide against Israel. I'm with DocJay -- this is not gonna end well.

I haven't mastered Twitter myself - I do follow a number of conservatives, but I still prefer blogs and, of course, Ricochet :-)

It should not come as a surprise that global anti-semitism is alive, well, and using modern communication methods. Anti-semitism is one of the great historical evils of the world and it will last until the end of the world. I tend to use support for Israel as a quick benchmark to gauge someone's world view.  If you are anti-Israel, it's likely (but not necessarily assured) that you are anti-semitic and anti-Western Civilization.

In short, being anti-Israel throws up more red flags for me than a Chinese May Day parade.

To be fair, Twitter also seems to do a masterful job of getting people fired from their jobs.
