Paul, I see your Peter Jackson cute and cuddly Hobbits and raise you a face-sucking, chest bursting, alien killing machine; courtesy of Ridley Scott making his return to the sci-fi genre for the first time since Blade Runner. Your move, Professor...

Or more Ouzo.

Good trailer. I liked it, aside from the goofy flickering at the end.
Of course, the problem with Ridley Scott is that he makes B- movies that lend themselves to A+ trailers.
More toga and ouzo, definitely.

Re: Is "Prometheus" The Trailer of The Year?
Ridley Scott has definitively said, on the record, that the Xenomorph is NOT in this movie.
In fact, the Space Jockey in Prometheus may not be the same Space Jockey we meet at the beginning of Alien.
Don't get me wrong, this trailer gives me nerdgasms. But don't get people's hopes up about this being an Alien movie. It's not.

Re: Is "Prometheus" The Trailer of The Year?
As for the "best trailer" battle, there have been quite a few really good trailers this season. The next Golden Trailer Awards will be a nail-biter.
Some others I liked: Goon (Slapshot for the 21st Century), The Grey (Liam Neeson punching wolves in the face!), and G.I. Joe Retaliation (ninjas battle while hanging off the side of a freakin' mountain).
Remember, this contest is about the quality of the trailer, not the quality of the movie...

Re: Is "Prometheus" The Trailer of The Year?
Well, I could be wrong but from the brief clip, it looks like it could be the prequel to Alien and shows how the original Alien craft ended up on the planet where it was first discovered by "Mother" the computer on the mining ship Nostromo. Hmmm....

Re: Is "Prometheus" The Trailer of The Year?
Curiouser and curiouser...
The spacecraft depicted in Trailer 1 is the same craft in the original Alien...or a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Re: Is "Prometheus" The Trailer of The Year?
Is it just me? From the cylindrical-like field of "eggs" the character wanders through, to the flamethrower (Ripley's weapon of choice), to the name of the film morphing from the vertical lines seen in the opening, to the traumatic "eat through your face shield" clip, I would hope this is a tie in to the Alien saga. Otherwise, I may be forced to conclude that Scott is getting tired. Having said that....I'm in.

Damon Lindelof, who co-wrote the script, has said that Prometheus does not "dovetail" into the beginning of Alien, and that it's not the story of how the Space Jockey ended up on LV-426. Also, the crew members in the trailer are wearing "Weyland Corp" badges, NOT Weyland-Yutani, which indicates that this film takes place before Weyland and Yutani merged.
Of course, it's entirely possible that Scott and Lindelof are lying to throw fanboys off the scent, but it's more likely that this is a movie that takes place in the Alien fictional universe, but it is not a story about the SAME Space Jockey we saw at the beginning of Alien. The planet in the trailer is probably not LV-426.

Re: Is "Prometheus" The Trailer of The Year?
Oh, it does tie in, but according to Scott the connections are limited to the fact that it takes place within the same fictional universe. But supposedly it does not answer any questions about the Xenomorph. It's supposedly all about the Space Jockeys.
However, once again, Scott and Lindelof could be lying.

Re: Is "Prometheus" The Trailer of The Year?
What makes this trailer truly great is the way it draws on the iconography from the original 1979 trailer for Alien, which is probably the scariest trailer ever made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEVY_lonKf4

Re: Is "Prometheus" The Trailer of The Year?
Well, whatever the story, I'm in as well. I'll watch anything by Mr. Scott. I consider him probably the best filmmaker alive at the moment...even if he does like to swirl gobs of snow and debris in each of his films.
