In the the first couple of segments of my Uncommon Knowledge interview with Tim Groseclose, Tim discusses the methodology he employed in his new book, Left Turn: How Liberal Media Bias Distorts the American Mind.  If you like political science, sociology, or economics, you'll luxuriate in the discussion.  If you don't, you can still enjoy letting it wash over you.  Because, you see, in Tim's case the methodology is central--he's saying about the media what we've all said for years now, but he's saying it so rigorously that even academia has to admit he has a point.

Objectivity?  Balance?  Even-handedness in the mainstream media?  Tim dispatches all the pompous nonsense with a smile--and with precision.

I realize that my comments are relevant to a later portion of the interview but felt I had to get them in here.  Please inform Mr. Groseclose that Washington County, Utah was not founded by Confederate sympathizers (Mormons were very anti-slavery).  It was given its nickname of Dixie for two main reasons: At the outbreak of the Civil War Brigham Young decided to further populate the area with families sent to the area in 1861 for the expressed purpose of growing cotton (epic fail by the way) as a way of getting cotton unavailable because of the embargo - this effort combined with Washington County being in the far southern corner of the territory let to the appellation of Dixie for those of us (well not me, I just got here about six years ago) living in the far northern reaches of the Mojave Desert.  While I don't doubt that some members of this expedition may have had southern sympathies (justifiably) they were not the reason we are called Dixie. Simple fact gotten wrong which for me calls into questions the correctness of his theory.  Also, Mr. Seegmiller has a great gun shop.
