Improving the Debates

Can someone tell me why we even have moderators for these debates? Why not just let the candidates pose their own questions to each other? Something like a minute for the question, followed by a minute rebuttal, a minute follow up, and then a final rebuttal. Don't you think that would be far more interesting? What ideas do you have for improving the debates?

Re: Improving the Debates
You're not going to improve the debates. The CPD is a bipartisan affair designed to control the process.
Improve the debates? Dump the CPD and let the League of Women Voters control it again. Then it'll act in the public interest instead of the two candidates.

I like the idea. How about bostaff fights though?

Re: Improving the Debates
These debates are not debates but on air interviews. In a real debate the moderator would just be a time-keeper, rather than a cheerleader for the Democrat candidate.

The answer is that I should be allowed to moderate the debates.

Re: Improving the Debates
The League of Women Voters is so deep in the tank for the Left that's the reason we now have the almost equally deep in the tank CPD. The RNC needs to grow a pair and quit allowing nothing but Leftists for moderators.
And drop the town hall format where the Left seems to get a 4:1 advantage on the questions.

Re: Improving the Debates
PMQ-style: the candidates get to ask each other x number of questions per round.
There are sometimes topics that both candidates would really prefer to avoid that it might be in the public interest for them to address. Not that the kind of moderators we have usually bring them up profitably, but in an ideal setting... one debate with a moderator out of the three?

I think we should lobby for The 2012 Presidental Debate hosted by Ricochet, and we all get to ask one question with one follow up.

The only thing I can think of involves an advanced tech solution: same format, but hooked up to brain wave reading computers that can read out what they're really thinking as they give their soundbites.

Re: Improving the Debates
?Why have these at all. Nothing new comes out, nothing substantive is really addressed - all you get is posing.

Re: Improving the Debates
The debates are all about propping up the Legacy Media. Nothing more, nothing less. Asking why the GOP plays along is asking a deep question about institutional (mis)behaviour.

I was going to suggest fisticuffs, but I like your idea better. Either that, or this (have to use the music, too).
