We are all excited for November 6, 2012. With the current trajectory of the nation it is entirely possible (and quickly becoming more and more probable) that President Barack Obama will stand at a podium and deliver the only speech conservatives have wanted to hear from him. We do not know who our candidate is yet, but we believe that he (or she, for Palin, Bachmann, Huntsman fans) can deliver victory. The point of this pontificating is not to get too excited yet about our chances; rather, it is to consider a singular, and very scary possibility for what happens when we win.

We know the president has a touch of ego. Anyone who believes his election to a four year elected term will heal the planet obviously has an overdeveloped sense of the self. We also know he has never lost anything. We know some of his more ardent supporters will likely go Gore when he loses. Will Obama concede graciously and call for unity when 270 is written in the other column? It is likely we will face some unrest and turmoil (thanks to all the racial pot stirring on the left), but how bad will it actually be? In his moment of defeat Obama will finally have a bit of the power he craves. He can bring calm or chaos. Which will he choose?

I sincerely hope that I'm wrong, but I've had a sneaking suspicion since he was elected that if he was defeated for reelection he and his minions would do everything in their power to foment racial strife.

BTW - love the "(or she, for Palin, Bachmann, Huntsman fans)".

It's possible that he may make his concession speech at the Democratic National convention, very possible if this recession double dips

I must always caution myself against ascribing sinister motives to the left. The potential problems that may arise upon his defeat make this even more important. I fear not only what might happen, but more so I fear what that would say about our nation.

The president will.......guess what?......blame others for his defeat in a big time way.  Republicans, Tea Partiers, businesses, the rich and all the rest are at fault for being stupid and not buying into the transformation.

I am curious to what degree he creates a pardonpaloosa.  If its all relative like the left likes to assume, then hell, let 'em all out of prison.

In the event of riots or other unpleasantness, I'd hope and expect that Obama would rise to the occasion -- it could be his finest hour, in fact, appearing with his  successor at his side and giving a beautiful speech appealing for calm and acceptance.

Wishful thinking, maybe, but I picture him coming through, if for no other reason than to save his legacy from even further disdain.

(But we may be getting ahead of ourselves here.)

I don't know what Obama will do but I can predict what the left will do. It will be all race card all the time from the day after the election until the inauguration and then some.

I fear the effect of that much race baiting. Will the new president's first challenge be to quell the rioting? It is an ugly scenario. I hope Obama can rise to the occasion and be a hero (for once in his presidency), but his ego trips leave me wondering. If the only thing the nation ever did right was to vote him into office, then the ultimate wrong would be to vote him out.

I don't fear what will happen if he is not re-elected. I fear what will happen if he IS re-elected!

The only thing we know for sure is that it won't be Barack Obama's fault.

"My fellow supporters; because of your incompetence, your lack of vision and audacity, I have been denied a second term by the racist, bitter clingers of the demon-filled right. Before I leave the scene, and accept a more substantive, higher-profile position as chief justice of the World Court, I have only one piece of advice: Better start moving inland, it's going to get wet.

"Thank you. Now Maxine's got a few words to say . . . "

But, isn't the law of diminishing returns in effect? The left and the media (but I repeat myself) have played the race card so often that crying racist seems to have been reduced to a punch-line.

Dateline:  White House Press Briefing Room, November 23, 2012

"My fellow Americans, while it is clear from these early returns that it appears I am behind, due to voting irregularities I have asked Eric Holder to open an investigation into what appears to be a massive conspiracy to defraud the rights of American citizens to vote.  We have allegations and evidence of massive fraud in Ohio, Florida, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Texas, where it appears that the roughly 2/3 of all ballots were in fact issued illegally.  I call upon my fellow Americans to remain calm as we temporarily suspend the meeting of the electoral college until this investigation is concluded.

We have made a number of preliminary arrests and have called upon the military to stand ready...."

With a nation that is stressed and frustrated financially (more so in minority communities) any systemic shock will have wide ranging effects. Add the fact that the media will probably ask often enough if the president's reduced popularity and declining reelection chances are the result of racism, and a credible narrative will develop that racism is the most probable cause. His impending loss will be touted as the ultimate proof that we're still a racist nation. When that loss happens, the stage will be set for chaos. What happens at that point will largely be up to President Obama.

I think people on the left are so disappointed with Barack Obama, that even they will breathe a sigh of relief.

Indeed. I considered this idea for several days before posting the topic for just that reason.

I hope that Obama becomes Secretary of the United Nations--a few days before President Palin signs legislation defunding the UN.

(of course, this won't be until 2021, after the second Romney term)
