If You Supported Cain, Where Do You Go?
I shouldn't laugh at the new line of T-shirts available to show your support for the Herman Cain candidacy, but I did. I'd been somewhat skeptical of the charges against Herman Cain but this last one -- about giving money to a woman for a decade without his wife's knowledge -- is just amazing. When I asked my husband what he'd think if I'd given money to a man he didn't know (or know about) for a decade, he just looked at me like I was insane. As you do.
So it will surprise no one that the bottom has dropped out of support for Herman Cain in Iowa. He's in the single digits now.
The Des Moines Register is holding on to the other polling until the weekend. Where do you think the support will go? Newt? Any other possibilities?

IMHO, Cain supporters will split. About 70% will go for Newt (at least for now). The other 30% will divide between Bachman and Paul. None for Romney.
Though the shirt is damning, it cracked me up.

If Mitt is a bond, he is not a risk free AAA. He is more like a convertible bond that can switch to a stock in the future.

Sounds an awful lot like George Bailey and Violet Beck from It's a Wonderful Life.

It might be good to take notice that in the latest national polls Romney’s numbers have declined. In one he is down to 17%. He generates almost no enthusiasm and the best most can say about him is he is not as bad as the rest of the possibilities. To have the best organization, the most money and be losing support after a year of campaigning cannot be a good sign. I realize the GOP establishment wants him, but if he can’t show some improvement in this field of fizzling fakes they need to reconsider their position or concede 2012 to Obama.

Yikes, I guess we are all off message now.

I suspect most will go, for the moment, to Newt, with the exception of the social conservatives who most likely will turn to Perry or Bachman. Paul and Romney might pick up a few scraps.

I do not think that many of these people will go to Mitt. He has been campaigning for basically 6 years. The reason people were willing to support Cain was both his positive pro growth message and the fact that he was not Mitt. Newt will benefit and it could be the second chance for Perry.

Newt.

I'm praying the support goes to Rick Perry.

Re: If You Supported Cain, Where Do You Go?
Yes, this worries me, too. Remember when Dole in 1996 would visit places on his campaign stops and his numbers would go down in those same places? (This happened to Kerry, too, BTW.) It's possible that this could happen to Mitt, too. By the time this particular syndrome starts -- and we can see it clearly -- it will be too late. We will be committed by the time we know it for sure.
What you are talking about is an early warning of the Dole syndrome -- let's call it the Dole-drums.

Yes indeed...
MR.POTTER: What is it –– a woman, then? You know, it's all over town that you've been giving money to Violet Bick.
GEORGE BAILEY (incredulous): What?
