Did President Obama really say this?

I'm warning you.

Republicans said tense negotiations over raising the $14.3 trillion debt limit at the White House ended when President Obama stormed out of the meeting with a stern warning to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.): “Don’t call my bluff.”

Or else. He's bluffing about bluffing--one bluff within another. Also known as the double-bluff, the metabluff, or the hyperbluff.  He obviously means business.

At least we have Nancy Pelosi making sure it doesn't get too heavy by injecting a little levity:

“The president could not have been more gracious. I have never seen a president spend so much time with the leadership of Congress day in and day out, respectful of their concerns,” Pelosi added.

President Obama, gracious, and respectful of Republicans' concerns?  Now that is funny.  Reminds me of another famous negotiation involving a frustrated chief executive:

If you do not show us the Grail, we shall take your castle by force!

You don't frighten us, English pig-dogs! ... Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time-eh!

Now this is your last chance. I've been more than reasonable.  If you do not agree to my commands, then I shall--

Well, you'll just have to watch the video to see what happens next.

I think Obama said that just as an impulsive expression. I don't think he was giving anything away. We already knew he's not really negotiating. But it is remarkable how haughty and belligerent he has been.

Just imagine what he will be like during his next term if he gets one. The facade would completely drop away by 2014 is my guess. Obama is capable of worse things than we have seen so far.

The Monty Python clip is great. I actually heard that skit on a casette tape long before I saw the movie. I can't recommend this CD compilation of their skits highly enough.

I'm just afraid that the republicans in the house will turn out to be Brave Sir Robin.

Thank you for that moment of hilarity, Mark. We need a lot more of them.

Mr Obama's bluff is already being called - I am beginning to have more confidence in the Republicans... let's hope it lasts.

I cringe at the thought of our president talking in this embarrassing manner to foreign leaders in negotiations. Thankfully, I know he will never be as tough on hostile foreign leaders as he is on his domestic political enemies.

Bravely bold Sir Obama

Rode forth from olde DC

He was not afraid to lie

Oh brave Obama

He was not at all afraid

To lie in nasty ways

bold connected involved yes Obama

He was not the least bit scared

To mash our country to a pulp

To fundamentally transform

Gouge the eagle's eyes out

Liberty's elbow broke

And our unity split

The constitution burned

And our confidence hacked and mangled

Brave Sir Obama

Our rights smashed in

Our hearts cut out

Our conscience removed

And progressives unleashed

And our illegals raping

The teleprompter on

When videotaping

Brave brave brave Sir Obama

When the debt ceiling reared its ugly head

He slipped out to the back and led

lying, cheating insecure Mr Obama

That was hysterical.  I had heard the "elderberries" line before and wondered where it came from.

Obama's negotiating skills are laughable, but McConnell's are not much better....  "We refuse to give in to your demands, and if you don't give in to ours, we will hand you the power to raise the debt limit without us!! The voters will know who is responsible!!!"

Wow, he really showed them.  I love the way he maximized the GOP's control of the house to get the best deal possible (not).

Luckily, the Boehner's troops seem to be rebelling, and DeMint is promising to do everything he can to fight it as well.

Now I know why McConnell suggested his deal. He couldn't stand to "negotiate" with Obama any more.

Twitter is incomparably fun for capturing the current zeitgeist.  David Burge, who runs the Iowahawk blog is one of the best.  Yesterday, he was using the hashtag #dontcallmybluff to post some wonderfully pithy observations.

Consider this: Woody Allen getting a divorce ? Trying to imagine Joe Biden as the Waco Kid or Obama as Sheriff Bart ?

But then you think about Bernanke as Mr Creosote, yes...you're right KP.

Now, who is Lili vonSchtup ?

From the Obama admin? I don't know. Pelosi, but there's not enough brain bleach after the new regulations limited the supply.

That picture shows us Obama is able to be both thin lipped and in a pout at the same time.  Does the man have no limit to his powers?

Based on the look on his face, I imagine that picture as his second attempt to tell John Boehner to "pull my finger."

"Let me be clear..."

Y'know, I'm not a professional poker player, but amassed a decent online record in actual cash games.  And, uh, dude.  This is the way you learn to play when people are taking pity and letting you win.

Like they let you be Editor of Harvard Law Review without publishing anything.  And like they let you suddenly become the most powerful man in the world.

He's just not that smart.  Let's just come out and say it.  He's just not that smart.

A friend of mine taught his horse to snort at that name.  No this is not a fabrication. The first time on his ranch he did it out of nowhere to me and i couldn't get off the dirt for minutes.  Too bad this was in the pre you tube days.
