Apparently -- I am trying to piece this together from confused news reports, Twitter, and breathless, hysterical phone calls from my friends -- something happened in the United States regarding baseball and it's a bigger deal than the prospect of a Turkish-Israeli naval war, is that right?

It seems that someone actually admitted a mistake and apologized for it, and this has caused widespread cognitive dissonance and disorientation. Something bad has happened, and neither the Israelis not the Bush administration can be blamed. Folks are understandably disillusioned.
Of course, the government will step in and make it all right again, and there will naturally need to be new taxes to cover the cost of the new federal instant-replay authority.
