“I did not know if he was armed or not.” That, and George Zimmerman’s Lawyer Might Be An Idiot
I hate coming to conclusions until I’ve heard all the facts, but sometimes a piece of a story is just too irresistible to refrain from commenting about it.
Trayvon Martin killer George Zimmerman took the stand in his bail hearing. In a legally unnecessary apology to Trayvon’s family, he said of the boy, “I did not know if he was armed or not.”
Good grief. Why in the world would his attorneys allow him to say that?
If George didn’t know Trayvon was armed, the less reason there is to shoot him. Even if true, that didn’t have to come out now, and it only makes George look worse not better.
Certainly there are situations where an unarmed man (boy, rather) can be shot in self-defense.
However, George may have poisoned his own jury pool. If I’m the prosecution or Trayvon’s family, I’m keeping in the public ear as long as I can George’s admission that he did not know if the boy was armed, and still shot him.
The picture released today of the bloody back of George Zimmerman's head lends credibility to the claim that Trayvon banged George’s head on the ground.
Now, what I’m about to write may come from a certain cultural background, and it also may not vitiate George’s claim of self-defense, but here it goes: George Zimmerman should have taken his beating like a man and shouldn’t have shot a boy.
The facts that have come out so far (granted they could change) are that George Zimmerman targeted the boy, not the other way around. George was being a bully. If the boy started beating up the bully, then the bully should have at least expected that he could lose the fight, since the police advised him that they didn’t need him following Trayvon. That Trayvon could have kicked George’s rear-end is exactly WHY the police told him they didn’t need him to follow Trayvon.
A fair conclusion is that when George’s “neighborhood watch muscles” failed him, he cowardly went for his gun and shot an unarmed boy.
If he legitimately thought the boy was going to kill him that could change my mind. But until that evidence comes out, George Zimmerman is a punk who shot a boy he did not conclude was armed.
And he has a lousy lawyer.

I don't presume to know what Martin was thinking. What we do know is Martin eluded Zimmerman, and had 93 seconds to continue home. Instead he encountered Zimmerman while Zimmerman was returning to his car. The better question, which you apparently refuse to even consider, is why did Martin not go home and instead double back to Zimmerman?

@Tommy: So why would using niggy in his "My Space" profile name which was done in the mid 2000s by a group of "My Space" users to show a sort of online gang affiliation have something to do with the word coon? Has our society gotten so any word with nig in it is a racial slur and proof that the user is a racist?

Well, it's off to a walk through with my Jr Pee Wee team who have a playoff game tomorrow.
Here's hoping none of them look suspicious enough to any of you so that you follow and shoot them. NO SKITTLES at this game, OK?
In the meantime, I leave you with this cherubic, very boyish looking face:

Albert Arthur: You were clearly implying that Martin would have been justified in attacking Zimmerman if Zimmerman were a pedophile.
You are supplying the idea that Martin wondering about Zimmerman would be a reason to "attack Zimmerman."
I don't recall saying that at all, and asked you to direct me to the comment if I'm wrong about that. · 1 hour ago
You are being disingenuous.

Your post #11:
"If a guy as weird as Zimmerman was following my teenaged son, if he got close enough, I wouldn't blame my son for planting one on the guy's chin. He wouldn't know the guy's intention, and it certainly is strange for a 28 year old man to be following a 17 year old boy. Could be a pedophile for all the boy knows.
Tell Zimmerman to leave his neighbors alone."

At least you're spelling his name correctly now. I said, "You fabricated the idea of Martin possibly thinking Zimmerman was a pedophile out of whole cloth". I did not accuse you of saying Martin did think that. Thanks for proving my point.

Do the editors seriously think that Tommy's post quoted below is a reasoned, cogent argument? It is inflammatory to the extreme, suggesting that anyone who disagrees with Tommy is a nut who would murder children. The hypocrisy of the editors in this thread is really unfortunate.

You answered none of my questions nor did you address the fact that he talked against lawyer advice which disproved your title. When you say you didn't know what I meant, you're acting like a trial lawyer. Like I said earlier I dated one a couple decades ago. It's like arguing with Hannity, the narrative changes to straw men once he's losing and he shouts down other opinions. The discussion becomes pointless. I'm here now to get you to put your money where your keyboard is.1) Z will make a convincing self defense case 20-100 bucks..impartial moderator2) M will be shown to be a troubled kid with criminal like behavior at times, a hothead attitude, and a truant. 20-100 bucks....impartial moderator.3) Not guilty 20-100 bucks.

I'll tell you why I'm pushing back on this case too. It's not because I respect Z at all. I'm inclined to think he's an idiot but we shall see as the facts come out. I'm pushing back because the left forced this issue, lied their backsides off, and seem as ignorant of facts as can be. The left and Barrack pushed this because of race, Florida, and gun laws. You are part of their game and it's a bigger issue than some dead kid and some probable idiot, at least to me.

Tommy, I'm gonna go ahead and answer your question asking me why I am guessing that Travyon started the fight. From what I've read, there is a gap in the 911 tape, which is why it is unclear who attacked whom. I think Travyon ran away at first because he was scared. Then, watching Zimmerman go to the house to get an address (it was raining, I believe and dark), realized that Zimmerman is not a big guy and, angry, decided to show him what for. This guess is based on the grass stains on the back of Zimmerman's shirt and the two lacerations on the back of his head as well as his battered nose. Also on the fact that powder residue was on Trayvon's hoodie, which means the gun shot at close range.

I didn't say that I believed he said coon. I said it is something that could come up in the trial (not all facts that come before a jury are correct, Basil, otherwise there would be no trial to begin with).
Zimmerman said the word was "punk." But his friend said it was coon and Zimmerman calls himself "datniggy." If I'm the prosectuation, I might consider putting those facts into evidence. · 3 minutes ago
With the tape available, you'd get a witness to testify to what they thought the tape said? I'm fascinated by how you'd try to evade hearsay restrictions. · 1 minute ago
I'd bolster the "coon" allegation with his friend's testimony that "coon" is a frequently used word by George.
My hurdle would be relevancy, not heresay. · 5 hours ago
You seem to be ignorant of the fact that the prosecution in its own affadavit says that what Zimmerman said was "f**king punks." Why do you persist in implying that he might have used a racial slur? Are you attempting to fit the facts of the case into your preconceptions?

Re: “I did not know if he was armed or not.” That, and George Zimmerman’s Lawyer Might Be An Idiot
Tommy, your posts throughout this discussion are despicable. Half truths and innuendo's thrown in (pedophile, boy (who happens to be 6+foot tall athlete and old enough to fight in the armed forces.)) and then when called on them you float in and out of your commitment to the statements as if they where only suggestions and not serious.
Your insistence at coming across as a lawyer, one who "knows" the law, and then throwing in one very poorly arrived at assumption after another is beneath this website, but apparently not beneath you. Clearly you feel you deserve some respect on this topic. After all, you appear to be some kind of an expert of racism, pedophiles, and 17 year olds walking to the store for skittles. Oh, and let us not forget, Tommy, your never ending adherence to the "playground code" that we should all just "take our beating" the next time we are having our heads pounded into the ground.
Unlike you, Tommy, I am willing to accept that I do not know the facts of the case sufficiently. Also, I am unwilling to put racists statements into anyones mouths....especially ones that have already been dispelled.

Albert Arthur. I cannot watch him on TV because of how he treats dissenting opinions, some of which have merit and all that should be addressed on topic. I guess shout down was a poor choice....let's say deflect rather than address is my analysis and call my shout down statement hyperbole.

Fair enough, but I would instead say that he is sure in his beliefs, and sticks to them. I have to admit, I have listened to his radio show far more than I have watched his TV show. On the radio, I have heard him many times take a call from a liberal and let them talk at great length.
