I'd like to think Nathaniel Botwinick would have me think otherwise via his reporting on the Corner...

Representative Barbara Lee (D., Calif.) has proposed the creation of the Department of Peacebuilding. The DOP would be an executive-level department “dedicated to peacebuilding, peacemaking, and the study and promotion of conditions conducive to both domestic and international peace and a culture of peace.”

Representative Lee explained the rationale for her bill in a press release last week: “We invest hundreds of billions each year in the Pentagon, in war colleges, military academies, and our national defense universities all to develop war tactics and strategies. Now we need that kind of investment in peace and nonviolence here at home.”

The Department of Peace would have its own Peace Academy modeled on West Point and the other military academies, which would provide a four-year education in peace. The DOP would also be responsible for everything from stopping bullying in schools to declaring “peace days” in America to “encourage citizens to observe and celebrate the blessings of peace.” No need to worry over the nation’s increasing debt; the graduates of the Department of Peacebuilding will make sure our transition into penury will be peaceful.

Oh come on!

Barbara Lee is good for a laugh 365 days a year (366 in leap years).

Dennis Kucinich in drag with a tan. These people are delusional. There are only two ways to achieve peace. Either both sides want it, which means it will manifest itself, or one side capitulates, again manifesting itself.

No one can "wage peace," as the lefties like to say.

If I were rich I would establish a professorship at the Peace Academy.

I'm thinking we could call it the  "Neville Chamberlain Distinguished Professorship in Appeasement Studies."

Rep Lee, the best example I know for term limits....

This is a proposal that should be allowed to rest in peace.

I don't know if this is the ravings of a hippie, or the ravings of a fascist.  There are hardly more dangerous people in the world than those who "wage peace".  Usually they turn into Mao-level killers of millions.

Sounds a tad like 1984, don't you think?

My next-door-neighbor's kid is getting a graduate degree in "Peace Studies" at a state university.  I suppose we have to find jobs for such people.

It's the Peace Academy's football team I'd love to see.  Wonder what their mascot will be?  Surrender Monkeys?

This is a great idea that deserves our full supports. Volunteers will be predominently liberal. They will be sent abroad into hot spots, with one of the following consequences:

  1. They'll fail, realize that peace cannot be obtained without force, and become conservative.
  2. They'll fall in love with the insoluable problem their sent to solve, establish residency and stop voting in the U.S.
  3. They'll (sorry to say) die trying.

We need to turn the demographics back to our favor. This will help.

Yeah...ok.
