The more we find out about ATF's Project Gunrunner, the more horrifying the fiasco becomes.  The UK Daily Mail has the rundown of a congressional report released by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) today:

At least 122 firearms from a botched U.S. undercover operation have been found at crime scenes in Mexico or intercepted en route to drug cartels there, a Republican congressional report issued on Tuesday said.

Mexican authorities found AK-47 assault rifles, powerful .50 caliber rifles and other weapons as early as November 2009 that were later linked to the U.S. sting operation to trace weapons crossing the border to Mexico, the report said.

...Of the 2,000 weapons sold to the suspected gun traffickers, just over half remain unaccounted for, the report added. The ATF was unaware of most of the gun sales when they occurred, according to the Justice Department, which oversees it.

...Some 274 weapons were recovered in the United States and, so far, about a dozen were found at crime scenes, according to details given to Grassley and obtained by Reuters.

I have no doubt that placing American-bought weapons at the scenes of violent crimes in Mexico was the goal all along.

I can't help but suspect that Fast and Furious was a surreptitious effort to discredit gun ownership and create a pretense for more gun control. Hillary Clinton stated last April that 90% of the weapons used to commit crimes in Mexico come from the US and that was widely reported in the MSM. Planting a few seeds, maybe?

Also, Obama reportedly told Sarah Brady last March in regards to gun control: "I just want you to know that we are working on it," Brady recalled the president telling them. "We have to go through a few processes, but under the radar."

Under the radar, indeed.

For all the aspects involved this may play out worse than the Contra operations. The MSM has a soft sell approach to this, go figure.

Would like to see the Issa and IG investigations gain traction and have some teeth.

It is already clear this lands directly in Eric holders lap, guess who he take his ques from ?  If the ball gets dropped on this we are all in trouble..

Let the smelly stuff hit the air moving device and see what sticks.....

When the subpoenas start flying, we might even get the Gray Lady to show some interest (on page 20, of course).

Well , in other news today we find out that our country is contributing to the "wages" of 5500 palestinian terrorists imprisoned in Israel, and that a large portion of our funds sent to Afghanistan end up in the hands of our enemies .

Next thing you know, it'll come out that we refuse to counter the Iranians as they kill our troops and refuse to sanction the Syrians as they massacre their own people if they protest.

The level of insane is getting out of hand, don't you think ? I mean, after all, aren't we electing people to look after our national interests ?

Sorry that grain of salt must have dissolved.

Sometimes politicians, out of pure selfish instinct, avoid anything that will embarrass them if discovered. They shy away from risky schemes for fear of what the voters would say if they found out.

That's a selfish instinct, but it's extremely useful.

However, if politicians don't pay (or don't think they'll pay) any penalty for their mistakes ... counting on the media to cover their backside ... then they lose any hesitation. That's a very bad thing.

Yeah, me too. Imagine how low into banana-republicocracy we've fallen when we need to rely on the European press for news stories that are damaging to our leader because our news media won't touch them as a matter of policy?

Nope, won't happen. Then: Reagan. Now: Obama.

Beyond their indecency in their soulless disregard for life, despite their irrational defiance of ordinary common sense, no matter how they considered whether their duty proceeded under, above, or around the law, just as disturbing as all of that is their performance in executing the operation’s intended purpose was with such unprecedented diligence and cooperation among so many federal agencies.

Is this proof that centralized government gains in efficiency only when its agents operate with malevolent intent?

The other part of this is that the US exports weapons to Mexico thru military sales and these wind up in the hands of the cartels.

A new wrinkle is that the cartels set up a dummy company in New Mexico and the US State Dept. authorized weapons sales to same. Which provides some street cred to the recently captured Narco Kingpin that stated the weapons they used came from the US.

Just who is minding the store ?

If one bullet from one weapon found its way in to a patriot militia during the last admin this would have been front page news for months with requests for impeachment.

For this not to be pursued it would take death threats or bribery so we should all pay attention.  We all know it is Holder with Obama's approval.  In the end will Holder fall on the sword here?

Mr Obama has already made it clear he would like to do things his way sans constitution.  Obama even set up a dummy "Hunters and Shooters" association to counter the NRA last election.  The goal of this admin was to restrict second amendment rights all along and the whole operation was a fiasco since  the only endpoint was decided by ideology and the details did not seem to matter.

Should Mr Issa not pursue this to its fullest, I am going Galt and moving to Idaho.  I just cannot figure out who to move near, the racist white supremacists or the magic underwear worshippers.

Holder is a pathetic liar and blood is on his racist, law bending, anti-American, cowardly hands.

One of the characteristics of a decadent society is that absurdity becomes the norm.  A corallary to this characteristic is that the majority of people either don't know or don't care.  November 2012 will determine whether we can restore small "r" republican virtues or begin the descent toward history's dust bin.

You should move in next to the guy who drives a Dodge Power Wagon, doesn't speak to anyone unless he has to (but is polite and cordial when he does), and has a roughly hog leg shaped bulge in his jacket.

He will live on the other side of town from the guys you're talking about, and he'll appreciate greatly the amount of attention they draw in the opposite direction.

Just make sure you're a good neighbor.  ;)
