Humility Time, Or Good Golly, Miss Mollie
Eager to say something just now, I found, reading the comments on Rob's post, below, that our own Mollie Hemingway had already gone ahead and said it for me:
I would love for the elites -- in the Republican Party, in the media, in conservative media, etc. -- to humbly reflect on tonight's results. They are reacting by freaking out, more or less, but I'd prefer a bit more humble reaction. This is an indictment of them, too.
Well and truly said, Mollie, well and truly said.

That would be nice, but I think it more likely they'll double down.

I'd like to hear from Mike Murphy right about now.

Absolutely. I am getting more than a little tired of being told what I am supposed to think.

I knew newts had nine something. I thought it might be marriages, but it could be, as with cats, nine lives. That's what I'm thinking now.

Mike Murphy predicted this. I'm not sure why he'd feel humble about being right.

Paging EJ Hill:
Newt Gingrich: Eye patch, bandana, parrot on shoulder, peg leg, hook for a hand, bottle of Captain Morgan Rum in one hand, amphibian in the other, dead elephant on deck. Cannon ball run through the hull of SS Bain off the coast of Grand Cayman Island.

I said I wanted to hear from him, not that he'd be humble. I'm genuinely curious about his read of the situation and, in particular, the poll numbers.

I believe this is a massive repudiation of the whole concept of "campaign strategists". Remember what Newt said was the one thing he would change if he could go back? What sunk the McCain/Palin boat? We're seeing a capable conservative unleashed.

Draft Mitch Daniels is what the party elite should be thinking.

I'm beginning to wonder of Newt, too, really isn't different than the elite in kind, but only in degree.

Re: Humility Time, Or Good Golly, Miss Mollie
The elites and the campaign consultants have long counselled Republicans not to get into a micturating match with the media.
While Mitt Romney's minions have been stroking the press, Newt stood forth and micturated all over the media's shoes.
And the crowd cheered.

Re: Humility Time, Or Good Golly, Miss Mollie
I recall how Newt's entire campaign staff quit and went to work for a "serious" candidate, Rick Perry.
Contrary to the conventional wisdom of the time, apparently that event spoke more to Gingrich's strengths than his weaknesses.
