My day so far:  After the kids made me scrambled eggs, I crawled back into bed to spend an hour reading The Far Side of the World, the tenth volume in Patrick O'Brian's irresistible series of novels about the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars.  (Our story so far:  Capt. Aubrey and ship's surgeon Maturin have just set sail on the H.M.S. Surprise for Brazil, intending to intercept the American ship, U.S.N. Norfolk.)  An hour to read--and not for business, but for pleasure.  Very bliss.

Next up:  The missus and I will be loading the younger kids into the car to drive up to San Francisco, where we'll be meeting up with our oldest daughter, who turns 21 this very day, to ramble.  Maybe we'll go to the zoo, maybe to the marina.  I only know for certain that we'll end up for dinner in a Chinese restaurant, where yours truly will be very likely to indulge in a libation like the one pictured here.

That's this father's Father's Day.

Yours?

Started the day with a brake job on my daughter's Wrangler, then off to play some bad, OFS hockey then some reading and me voila!

It was a stellar Father's Day weekend.

On Saturday, my daughter (12) performed nearly flawlessly at her violin recital, and that night my band and I played a living room gig at a going-away party for friends who are moving back to London after 12 years here.

On Sunday, after church, my family of four went to see Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom (it will shock you to learn that it was quirky and whimsical), and we bought one giant diet soda to share, at a cost of $5, rather than having to buy four small drinks for a total cost of $16 - yet another advantage of living in the NYC suburbs rather than in the city.  Finally, we watched my son (9) play in the recreational baseball championship game, under the lights.  His team was playing the only undefeated team in the league.  With the score tied at 5 - 5, the game went into extra innings.  Ultimately, my son's "Red Sox" fell to the mighty "Yankees", but they sure gave them a run for their money!  I'm not a fan of trophies for everything, but Team Red certainly deserved theirs for runners-up.

As there are people still following this I thought I'd add a bit.

I'm just started reading Patrick O'Brian's  "Master & Commander" the first in the series.

I see a parallel in the relationship between Aubrey and Maturin, and Lewis and Clark. As Peter appears to glean much enjoyment from the series I'm hoping I will too.

Five great hours boating on beautiful Lake Norman (north of Charlotte, NC) with my wife, her father, my three sons and our new 18 week old puppy.  Found an empty beach on an island for a picnic and beverages.  Then home again for the last three innings of my Tigers' shut-out of the Rockies before the eldest son grilled out steaks and fresh sweet corn.  A great day-- topped off by a phone conversation with my 91 year old father.
