Honey, Just Shoot Me
As if Rick Perry hasn't done enough damage to his bid for the Republican nomination, his wife, Anita, now steps up to insult whatever Republicans weren't already outraged by Perry's "heartless" comment.
Whining and at times weeping in the course of an address at North Greenville University, Ms. Perry lashed out, complaining that, "It’s been a rough month. We have been brutalized and beaten up and chewed up in the press to where I need this today. We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith. He is the only true conservative – well, there are some true conservatives. And they’re there for good reasons. And they may feel like God called them too. But I truly feel like we are here for that purpose."
So the normal give and take of politics is too brutal for the Perrys?
Sweetheart, maybe God just wants you to stay home.

I don't know anything about THE PERRYs....but I know this much....they are back to square one. And this time...Anita needs to be invisible. Just the way it is. Extemporaneous baggage needs to be silent. (hey...I'm a wife who has to stand down now and then...) That is probably really a rude thing to say but it's true.

Man, the both of them just look & act beat! I had hopes for Perry but it's his job to articulate & advocate his positions and policies, not mine to do for him. I'm in no mood to be called heartless or have to translate for the man. I want someone that can articulate those things all by themselves.
He's got me wondering what's up with Texas?

How did this make the front page?
Michelle Obama spouts off left and right, and it didn't(doesn't) hurt Obama.
I don't see anything wrong with her comments.
Do you think that she's been a liability for the 3 time governor of Texas? What gives you that impression, since you know, he's been elected in a state of 25 million people?
Oh yeah, Here's Mitttens.
Romney's actual words and his position on issues...that doesn't bother anyone...

Not to be snarky, but have you been following the conversations here over the past 6 months?

Re: Honey, Just Shoot Me
This just adds to the general puzzlement about Rick Perry for those who are unfamiliar with him. I was and am willing to give him a hearing. He's been elected three times as governor, including winning this last time over Kay Bailey-Hutchinson. There must be something there.

Give Sarah Palin a call and asks her how she feels. Oh and toughen up princess, it aint getting easier from here on in.
Don't assume your ego and G-d's will are congruent
My namesake once said "Love of glory can only create a great hero; contempt of glory creates a great man."
Now is the time nations need great men, and not just a Republican hero.

Re: Honey, Just Shoot Me
I saw a clip of that on the news last night and my reaction was that the comment was inappropriate but not the worst thing a spouse could say when in the spotlight. I will give her a break unless she is consistently obnoxious which I doubt she will be. I watched Perry's interview on Fox this AM and was pleased that he seemed reasonable and coherent. Of course it was early and his narcolepsy had not set in.

Yeah, this seems like pretty unremarkable stuff. They have had a rough month, and they have been attacked on all fronts. She believes in her husband and thinks he's the best man for the job. Good on her -- and her husband. He's not the candidate I was hoping for, but he seems like a decent man nonetheless. I know nothing of her beyond what I read here, but this strikes me as admirable support for her husband.

Re: Honey, Just Shoot Me
This is unfortunate. It may be that his string of successes has insulated them both from the brutality of competitive, nasty races. This will not make it any better for them and for his bid. I like Perry and also hoped he would be the answer to Obama, or at least Romney. Doesn't appear that way though.
Too bad.

Re: Honey, Just Shoot Me
Sure, campaigning's a rough business, but "brutalized"?--
"We are being brutalized by our opponents, and our own party. So much of that is, I think they look at him, because of his faith."
Does she really think Gov. Perry is suffering for his religion in a Republican primary?
I'm guessing she's simply overwrought. The pressure would get to almost anyone. But yeah, a candidate's spouse has to know when to let go of the push-to-talk button.
