Homecomings
Recently I came across this video of a U.S. soldier returning home from Afghanistan, where he showed up at his door dressed as Captain America -- the same way his son was dressed. The video shows his sons' reaction when he reveals who he is.
It then turns out that there is a whole website devoted to these homecoming shots. Some truly incredible moments, and another reminder of what our military families do for us. You can spend all day here watching these moms, sisters, brothers, dads and children react when they are surprised by a loved one who has made it back from the war.

Man...why is the screen so blurry at the end?
Nevermind...it's me. ;)

Re: Homecomings
Great video!
I can't spend too much time on that website. It makes my eyes puffy for 2 days and dehydrates me.

Re: Homecomings
I'm such a sucker for this stuff.
Re: Homecomings
I liked the one where the school arranged a fake spelling bee. The young girl on stage was asked to spell "sergeant." Then she was asked if she knew any sergeants, and her dad appeared.

Re: Homecomings
Very moving. I met my dad when I was 3,after multiple tours as a doc in Vietnam( although I apparently saw him at age 1). He got off the plane and I said" You're my dad. I've seen you in the pictures and heard you on the tapes".

Re: Homecomings
I didn't expect that I would be crying at the end of this video.....but I was. Thanks Bill! All our troops are Captain America!
Re: Homecomings
My own experience was slightly different. My dad was a Marine who was stationed in Okinawa for a few years while my brother and I lived with our mom at our grandparents. While he was away, they used to ask me -- all of 3 or 4 years old -- where my daddy was. I used to answer, sadly, "Poor daddy 'hour'" [my way of saying Okinawa].
Of course he wasn't fighting in a war. He told me that a few days after he returned and I no longer was top man in the house, I turned to him and said, "Daddy, go back to 'hour.'"

Re: Homecomings
I just can't watch these. I certainly couldn't visit the website: I would be a blubbering mess. I took retirement after 24 years because the thought of depriving my children to such an extent any more was no longer acceptable.
This is a good time to say another prayer for all the military kids and spouses who endure the aching pain of separation so frequently.
