As the Hollywood Reporter notes:

Gerald Molen, the Oscar-winning producer of Schindler’s List, is claiming political bias because a documentary movie he produced this year isn't up for an Oscar, even though that film, 2016: Obama’s America, made more money at the box office than the combined earning of the 15 films the Academy deemed eligible.

Although I disagree with the Academy's decision, I can at least understand it. Perhaps the documentary wasn't good enough or artsy enough for the Academy's tastes.

What I cannot understand, however, is the mainstream media's treatment of the story. Namely, they've completely ignored it. When a documentary so thoroughly trounces its competition at the box office yet is not considered for an award, that's news.

While the story has been ignored by the New York Times, USA Today, and Washington Post --outlets that pretend to be unbiased -- it received a prominent headline on the Drudge Report.  I think we're seeing why the Drudge Report receives approximately an equal number of page views as the three mainstream outlets named above, notwithstanding the fact that the Drudge Report is essentially a one-man operation, while the latter outlets employ hundreds.

Tim, don't worry. I got the license plate of the turnip truck you fell off yesterday. We'll get you back to it.

I thought that was the easist part to understand.

Same thing happened to Waiting for Superman. And that one was less overtly political.

And,  by the way, of course these movies are being punished for thoughtcrime.

There is a guy in Vegas who might be happy to fund an alternate awards program, as long as you call them "Sheldons."

NO ONE who saw that movie, and witnesses the MSM's treatment of The One over the last few years is surprised at this.  It reminds me of one of Michael Ramirez's best:

Did audiences snub it?

Cecille B. Demille liked awards.  He liked box office sales better.

The best way to kill a book is not to trash it in a review; it is to refuse to review it. That is the game that the mainstream media is playing. Like Pravda, in days gone by, they ignore the news that does not fit the narrative that they are spinning. They think that they can win this way, and they may be right. Think of the manner in which they spun and are still spinning Barack's Benghazi Bungle.

It's called prophylaxis.  I'm told that Anatoly Karpov was a master of prophylactic play in chess.  The idea is to prevent your opponent from improving his position while simultaneously improving yours.  The mainstream media's prophylactic is to ignore whatever it is that doesn't fit into their narrow worldview in the hope, usually realized, that it will go away.

I haven't seen the other films in the Documentary Category -- at least not all of them -- but I didn't find 2016 to be particularly noteworthy as a political documentary.  It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either.  It had high production values, but the content was meh.  Given the number of conservative documentaries "Hating Breitbart," "Occupy Unmasked," and "2016" I had hoped that one would be compelling.  I loved Breitbart and Occupy, but only because they gave me a couple more moments of Breitbart the man.

I would have preferred that the Breitbart film really delve into him as a private citizen rather than as an internet/news presence and his media legacy.  I wanted more of the guy discussed at his funeral than I got in that film.

I don't think that 2016 deserves an Oscar.  Consideration?  Maybe, but was there any real "digging" or insight in the doc?  I dunno.

As for the MSM.  Yes they should be reporting that it isn't being considered.  They won't.

Well, for one thing, the MSM would be publicizing evidence that impeaches their own conduct if they were to publicize it.

In related news, Twilight is also a non-contender.  Someone rattle the Academy...

And while 2016 is getting snubbed for the Oscars... guess who got nominated for the Grammys? You guessed it! Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton, Ellen DeGeneres and Rachel Maddow.

Nope! No media bias to see here, folks!
