Historic Health Care Reform
It's historic, all right. Historically radioactive:
At least five of the 34 House Democrats who voted against their party’s health care reform bill are highlighting their “no” votes in ads back home. By contrast, party officials in Washington can’t identify a single House member who’s running an ad boasting of a “yes” vote — despite the fact that 219 House Democrats voted in favor of final passage in March. One Democratic strategist said it would be “political malfeasance” to run such an ad now. Democrats have taken that advice to heart; it appears that no Democratic incumbent — in the House or in the Senate — has run a pro-reform TV ad since April, when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) ran one.
I wouldn't be surprised if Reid's were the last.

Re: Historic Health Care Reform
Political Consultant:
"OK, so your opponent attacks you for your vote in favor of reform. What are gonna say?"
Dem Incumbent:
"That heath care costs were out of control and I'm proud of my vote to rein in costs while extending coverage to the most vulnerable among us and..."
Consultant:
"Holy Mother of God...do I have to smack you upside your head? Tragic anecdote - don't you remember anything?"
Dem:
"Um, um...I'm sorry. Can you, uh, refresh me?"
Consultant:
"You say, ''I agonized over this vote. I prayed. And then one day I received a letter from the unemployed mother of a little girl. Her name was MaryAnn Petoskey and she was suffering from nose cancer and her insurance company wouldn't cover her treatment because..."
Dem:
"Because...because...she had a pre-existing condition! A pre-existing condition!"
Consultant:
"Good, very good. And then what do you say?"
Dem:
"The Pelosi thing?"
Consultant:
"That's right...go on..."
Dem:
"That Nancy Pelosi is a nasty slut, but I'll never, ever apologize for my vote to save little MaryAnn Petoskey!"
Consultant:
"Good boy. And don't forget to tear up."
