Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid was on the floor of the upper chamber yesterday pushing for the body to pass reforms to the U.S. Postal Service. His logic was, shall we say, novel. Here's how The Hill reports it:
"Madam President," Reid said to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), the presiding officer of the Senate, "I'll come home tonight here to my home in Washington and there'll be some mail there. A lot of it is what some people refer to as junk mail, but for the people who are sending that mail, it's very important.
"And when talking about seniors, seniors love getting junk mail. It's sometimes their only way of communicating or feeling like they're part of the real world."
So, just to review, the Senate Majority Leader's view of elderly America is one in which legions of shut-ins can only be moved to draw their next breath in the hopes that it will be accompanied by a Bed, Bath & Beyond mailer. This muddles the left's narrative a bit, no? I mean, at that point, having Paul Ryan push you off a cliff starts to sound pretty appealing by contrast.

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
Harry reminds me of Eeyore. He's pessimistic, gloomy, depressed, anhedonic.

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
I battle with my 93-year-old mother about this all the time—about letters and newspapers—and, unfortunately, he's got her sentiments down to a tee.

If Harry Reid likes junk mail so much, can I arrange to send him mine?

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
The man suffers from "Senile Dementia" and should be put out to pasture! How many years now, has he put out these absolutely preposterous statements? Although, I must say, he does a wonderful job of representing the Dems and all their follies.....

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
It appears from his biography that Harry is 72 or 73 years old.
Harry is talking about himself!

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
I'm entering my dotage. If the only thing that I'll have to keep me going is in year's ahead is junk mail then maybe the death panel thing isn't so bad.
I'd give $100 to see a psychological analysis of old Eeyore. He inhabits a different world than I live in.

Troy,
Have you ever noticed how much Harry Reid resembles a corpse? Has anyone taken his pulse lately?
Truly he is terminally Stupid!

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
Every time I've written an article about his corruption no one cares. I hate the man.
Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
You know, the thing about Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid is that, if you wrote a novel or a movie script with characters like these, you would be accused of having given way to the surreal. Each is, in his or her way, a national treasure. They should all be relegated to the national attic.
Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
If Sarah Palin had said something this immensely stupid, this indefensibly moronic, it would be all over the news, the talk shows, Twitter, everything.
Maybe it's my morning mood, but I don't even find this funny. I find it infuriating. Why is Harry Reid not sitting in some awful dayroom somewhere, waiting for his nurse to bring him his meds?

I care, but I'm only one man, with no vote in Nevada.

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
Oh, he has my elderly mom well pegged. And that is just one point. First, bear in mind, my mom is a staunch conservative. Second, he is hanging on only long enough until he can finally take off the training wheels of his greatest creation, Charles Schumer.
My personal belief is that Schumer triggered the banking collapse, long fostered by people like Reid. Schumer isn't ready, yet, to be the face of the Democratic Senate. Reid is only hanging on long enough to complete the gestation.
It is folly to believe Reid is out-of-it, when he may just be out of our realm of comprehension, as detestable and cynical. Very sharp-minded people, just this bad, exist, and they require our incredulity to survive. They work the reliable P.T. Barnum axiom of suckers born every minute to their advantage, while we tsk-tsk.

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
He's the perfect face of his Party. What better representation could there be of a failing, outworn ideology than that leathery, old, rasping fossil?
Maybe we should call attention to how fearful we are of his vigorous presence, his robust baritone and the clarity of his rhetoric. The trick is to do it without laughing, not as easy as it sounds.

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
Logical conclusion: all seniors need broadband 24/7 connectivity. Unbounded access to spam will keep them “communicating or feeling like they're part of the real world” at a fraction of the price of the legacy post office.
On the other hand, should they wish to end it all, listening to a collection of Harry Reid speeches should do the trick in short order.
And just imagine how much the Senior Communication Access Mandate will benefit the economy of Nigeria!

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
The mail delivery in Mexico consists of a guy on a motorcyle that delivers utility bills only. Imagine if the USPS performed in that manner.
All other commercial services are via FedEx, etc.
Just what arrives in your mailbox that you really need ?

Re: Harry Reid: Champion of Senior Citizens
Dang! Last summer, during the dept limit mess, Obama was willing to suggest that Social Security checks might not get sent out. So we're prepared to tell seniors they wont get their SS checks but we're afraid to tell them they wont get junk mail anymore.
