This tends to get lost in the bland consolidation of what we now know as Presidents Day, but Happy 278th Birthday, General.

Re: Happy Birthday, President Washington
Sadly, the truly great men who founded and bled for this nation are nothing more than a meaningless bank holiday. MLK and modern day heroes get the special days now. If you are a darling of the PC establishment, you are celebrated. If you are merely a truly great leader who made the freest nation in earth's history... you were merely a minor player.
God help us when we find our special Monday holiday celebrating Barry Obama's b'day.

This is what says it all for me:
"They wanted me to be another Washington." -- Napoleon Bonaparte, while in exile on Elba.

The fact that MLK has a holiday, but GW does not, is a Cultural War Crime.

Re: Happy Birthday, President Washington
I'm sure Washington would be too polite to quibble about this (particularly at his age), but he was actually born 279 years ago.
