Halftime in America, IowaHawk Style
David Burge of IowaHawk has done it again. This time it's a brilliant spoof of Clint Eastwood's "Halftime in America" commercial. Here are some highlights:
It’s halftime.
Both teams are in their locker rooms discussing what they can do to win this game in the second half. Diagramming plays. Texting their agents and German supermodel wives. Reviewing Belichick's aerial spy photos.
It’s halftime in America, too. People are hurting, and it isn't because of towel snapping and the ol' Kramergesic-in-the-jockstrap prank. They’re beat up and bruised, and wondering what they’re going to do to make a comeback. We’re all scared, because this isn’t a game. And because we're up against the Dragons and their all-Asia linebacker Hong Kong Chong with his crazy 'roid rage chopsockey chop-blocks.
...
And if Emperor Toyota thinks he can underestimate us again, like back in '41 - well, Make My Day, Punkazuki. A new Enola Gay is headed your way, and Captain Obama and his fightin' boys from the UAW are ready to drop a hybrid electric PT Cruiser to blow your market share back to the Stone Age.
Yeah, it’s halftime America. But we're only down 15.4 trillion to 0. Now let's get back out there and cover the Vegas spread.
And, speaking of hideous rusted clunkers from Detroit, please enjoy Madonna's halftime show.

Re: Halftime in America, IowaHawk Style
On days like this, I'm convinced that the best use of GOP campaign dollars is to blanket the United States with Iowahawk parody leaflets, and campaign commercials. I don't think Team Obama can survive a head on collision with Team Iowahawk.
Pay the money to bring the funny.

That is hilarious, Alcina! Is that guy riding a cooler at the end?!
I'm with Pseud. Team Obama would collapse under the scorn if the GOP spread Iowahawk's work around.

Dave Burge is brilliant! His Twitter posts are the only thing worth reading on Twitter. He is as funny, if not funnier, in 140 characters that he is in the long form writing. Someone, somewhere needs to hire this guy to write satire full time.

The thing I HATE about the "Halftime in America" thing is that implies the end of our game is just ahead. It is so defeatist -- and not true.

Could the RNC make better use of it's money than running this ad in primetime? It combats the stereotype of conservatives as uncreative scolds and skewers the Dems for big government spending, their Siamese-twin attachment to unions, Nannystate intrusion and regulation. It's tough to fight laughter.
Burge is a conservative (or libertarian, hate to misrepresent him) treasure, and it is a crying shame that our side hasn't made him rich putting those skills to work on a national level. Paging the Koch brothers.

What? And take all that time and energy away from restoring his classic hot rods?
And, not nit-picking or anything, I am only applying the same level of parsing and technicalities used by Obama to justify his breaking every campaign finance law or promise as not really having broken them, but I remind Mr. Burge that Tony Potami, the Army's finest tank fire control designer, was actually in Sterling Heights. That's a couple of suburbs North of Detroit.

Folks less familiar with Dave Burge should seek out his more serious side. The finding and restoration of Orbitron is a wonderful story. He was helped by good-guy Mexican bikers. The epilogue is an indictment of our current times. All of the good guys are now dead. He is a real journalist.
