Ricochet, start your engines:

Barbour is aware of the clamor in certain circles for his friend Indiana governor Mitch Daniels to enter the fray. Once again, “It is highly unlikely but it could happen,” he says. “It is certainly more of a possibility than ever in the past. However, in the past, the possibility was zero, so to say the odds are higher than zero is not something that, I think, you’re going to want to bet on.”

But this presumes there's something else that I do want to bet on.

So you're saying there's a chance?

Can I start every sentence to the governor with the phrase,"Pardon Me".

That just kills me, well actually others were killed.

In the unlikely event that some great man descends deus ex machina at a brokered convention, we will very quickly learn that he too has feet of clay.

"New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is the top choice of Republicans if the party nominates its presidential candidate at a "brokered" convention this summer, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released Wednesday.

Mr. Christie is favored by 32 percent of Republicans, followed by former Govs. Sarah Palin of Alaska and Jeb Bush of Florida with 20 percent each, the poll found. Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels is fourth at 15 percent."

Heaven help us if Christie gets the nod.  While he is certainly combative and argues for fiscal responsibility I consider him to the left of Romney on almost every non-budgetary matter.   Romney's not catching fire isn't due to his hard right stances.

I think it says something about the current mood that this only gets a handful of comments here.

What a pointless poll.  Why would they not include the the current candidates as options?  While a brokered convention could open up the field, any undeclared candidate would still be competing with the established candidates for delegates and would likely remain on the sidelines unless the early horse trading failed to result in a nominee from among the guys who entered with delegates.

Now, if they had done the poll correctly and found that a sizable group of voters would abandon their current candidate for Chris Christie in a brokered convention, that might tell us something  - putting aside that those voters would have little to do with with decisions made at the convention.

Barbour is right the there is a big chance compared to zero, but still a 100 to 1 shot at best.

However, cleverest headline in a while.
