Great Expectations: Two Memories

In a few minutes I'll be decamping from Tuscany, en route back to Istanbul via Frankfurt.
I don't want to leave.
Two quick memories. An overheard exchange:
"They laughed at Galileo."
"Yes, but they also laughed at Bozo the clown."
And a helicopter, descending upon the still and timeless Tuscan countryside, to whisk off one of the mysterious attendees.
To that mysterious attendee: It was a pleasure to meet you. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to say goodbye in person--I was packing. Thank you for everything. You did a good thing.

I find it hard to believe that anybody ever laughed at Bozo the Clown.

In all seriousness, I find myself intrigued with Constantinople (aka Istanbul) after finishing Charles Brokaw's latest book, The Lucifer Code. Your final destination is definitely an interesting place to call home, Syrian refugee influx notwithstanding.

About a week ago I returned from a hike thru Tuscany. For reasons of reverse snobbery, I would never have chosen, on my own, a hike there. Fortunately some long time friends invited me. And now, I've told my son that it was a life experience: Tuscany's scenic countryside, millenia of history, and food. Mix all that with the warmth and happiness of the Italians. And, oh yeah, to stand before the David. Bliss. If I could be plunked down at the train station in Florence, I'd be there again in an instant
