Re: Great Commercial
That's pretty darn awesome... so when does it start running on national TV?

Re: Great Commercial
Through his union work, Reagan had a lot of contact with Communist true believers in Hollywood, and many of them were charming folks, but they had very little respect for freedom of thought or an individual's freedom of conscience. If you weren't with them, if you didn't believe exactly what they believed, you were a nobody, worse than a nobody. I think it scared Reagan, and drove him to study the ideology that could turn smart people so completely against the American way of life.

I hate really good internet ads. You just can't go out and buy 2:18 seconds of network time. It either needs pared down or expanded and then have some real money put behind it.

I was born in 1983 - the more I hear from Reagan, the more disappointed I am that I can't remember him.
Great, great video.

Re: Great Commercial
I ask myself: if I had never learned the history of Western Civilization, if I had never learned the history of the United States and if I had never lived through the Reagan era - would this ad resonate with me?
Because the fact is that most people under 30 never learned those things in our government schools.
And I fear that the statements made by Barney Frank and Dick Durbin in this ad probably make perfect sense to them.

Re: Great Commercial
Awesome.
It's really simple:
I___I___I___I
Generally speaking, a third of the people are on the left, a third on the right, and a third doesn't care. The more the right tries to gain those in the middle by moving left [ I___I_I___I__ ], they lose those on the right and won't vote. The more the left tries to gain those in the middle by moving right [ ___I_I___I___I ], they lose those on the left and won't vote.
President Reagan taught Us that You INSPIRE those in the middle to join Your party. Not to move in their direction.

I never failed to vote as a protest. I simply voted Libertarian. I figured eventually the Republicans would get the message. They didn't, even when the Libertarian vote cost them 3 Senate seats in 2006 and 2008 (if the Libertarian vote in Oregon, Missouri and Montana had gone to the GOP, they would have won those seats).
I think the essentially libertarian energy of the Tea Party may have finally gotten their attention - but they still can't figure out what libertarian really means.

Jason, I was born in 1959 and will never forget the night I walked through Boston's Back Bay elated by the realization that Ronald Reagan had just been elected President of the United States.

Re: Great Commercial
Absolutely brilliant video. We need more leaders who will boldly stand for our founding principles and can eloquently but succinctly communicate that message to the electorate.
Re: Great Commercial
But George, who is 2012's Ronald Reagan?

I remember the morning after Reagan's first election. A friend and I were walking through Columbus Circle in Manhattan and a young, somewhat ragged black man came skipping down the sidewalk, clapping his hands and declaring, "We got a real President now!"

Well, we know it's not Sarah Palin.
Honestly, the figure most like Reagan in terms of the ability to connect on a populist level just might be Glenn Beck. If only we could do a mind-meld between Beck and Mitch Daniels....

Good Lord. There exists a person who was born in 1983? I graduated from high school that year. Jason, I have neckties older than you.
But I'm not sure there's another Reagan in our future, or in our midst. But I'm not really concerned by that. The optimist in me believes that we make our own Reagans anyway.

2012 might be too soon, but how about Lt. Col. Allen West?

Peggy Noonan suggested it might be Chris Christie (WSJ article).

Will this ad be shown somewhere Americans can see it or just on You Tube?

Re: Great Commercial
The thing that worries me is that I'm hearing the same names for 2012 that I heard for 2008, worst of which being Mitt Romney. I like the idea of Christie, but I have yet to hear anyone speak with such a clear vision, as Reagan had.
Re: Great Commercial
Ay, there's the rub.
