Gratitude
I woke up this morning with a few minor complaints about my life. You know, the usual--not making enough money, not focused enough, too many unanswered e-mails, hostage to seven emotionally needy cats. Then I read about the Secret Service sex bust, and I decided my life was just fine.
Can you imagine how those idiots are feeling right now? I am so glad, I am so deeply grateful, I am so infinitely thankful, that I am not one of the Secret Service agents who has just been busted not only for soliciting hookers in Cartagena but for being too cheap to pay the bill. I am so glad I am not now in a plane en route to explain that to my wife.
Thank you, God.

Re: Gratitude
Think how much money you'd have if you weren't buying cat food. Two problems solved. No need to thank me. ;-)

Re: Gratitude
Many of the reports are repeating the claim that this incident has "upstaged" Obama's presence at the Summit of the Americas to discuss trade with Central and South America.
Nah. It took a hooker scandal to bring any attention to such a waste of time in the first place.
It's good to know we're establishing a reputation of not paying up.

Re: Gratitude
It is so easy to make a joke about this but it is not funny for the families involved. I don't feel like piling on. I hope we can all learn that "No will find out" is a fallacy.
What were they thinking?
The problem was they weren't.

Re: Gratitude
What a week: White House insider goes after stay-at-home moms, Obama nabs lower tax rate than his secretary, while his secret service advance team expects to party with prostitutes for free....
How's that War on Women meme workin' out for ya?

You choose your own behavior, like these guys chose theirs.
This is not exactly "Thank God" territory.

Could I borrow one of your cats? The Mighty Hunter?
See, one of the banks I clean has a rat living in the trash can in front, and it alarms both of us when I empty it.
I'm pretty emotionally remote, but I promise to lavish some on the kitty who rids me of this problem, after both the bank and my boss have failed to address the issue.
I'm not Pro-Cat, but I'm Anti-Rat.
Probably, I need a terrier.

I'd say it was more a problem of what they were thinking with.
To me, the oddest part of the story is this:
". . .the Defense Department announced that five military personnel, who are staying at the same hotel, violated curfew Wednesday night and have been confined to their rooms."
Perhaps I've been out of the military for too long, but this sounds like something out of a class trip.

Although I think there’s a scriptural teaching against this sort of gratitude (Lk 18), I am still very amused.

Something to do with Community Organizing, no doubt.

Re: Gratitude
Honey, I haven’t seen the records about who was reprimanded. I know three people who share my name, so I’m not sure if those represent the … er, person we’re … if they represent me, per se, necessarily. So I really can’t comment. Let’s focus on what the issue here is.

Israel, I agree wholeheartedly. We all make choices every minute of every day, and the Secret Service agents made theirs.
Claire: Thank you for choosing well and treating us to your insights.

It's a good thing those Columbian cops didn't find the dufflebag full of blow. Now that would have been embarrassing.

"Secret Service John functioning improperly. Talking to the prostitute he was quoted as saying, 'Just jiggle the handle.'"
It's this kind of public ridicule that may prevent others from performing the same behavior.

I encourage folks to go over to Prager University (www.prageruniversity.com) and watch the videos "Key to Happiness and Goodness" and "The Welfare State and the Selfish Society". Both mention the value of gratitude in a moral society.

Re: Gratitude
Misplaced or not, a little gratitude, with some pity thrown in, is not a bad way to start the day. Oh, and it helps that it happened on Obama's watch. Thanks, Claire.
