This morning, Google announced a "fundamental shift" in Google's search functionality. The newly unveiled "Google Instant" uses a system of instant results, predictions, and scroll to search features to shave off an estimated two to five seconds per query. Here's a demo of how Google Instant works:
Users in the United States with Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Google Chrome browsers can expect to start using Google Instant this afternoon.

Oh, so that's what's been annoying me lately! Whenever it comes up, I think "stupid drop-down box... go away!"
At least, the beta version, which I didn't realize I have been testing, was annoying. I just tried a few searches and I do like the new version. This public version doesn't obscure the search results with the option box like the version that has been plaguing me lately.

Thanks for the info. It's been driving me nuts all day. It ignores my preferences (gives me only 10 results instead of 100), the search box constantly goes missing, etc.
I guess I'm an idiot but I watched the clip and I don't understand what it's saying or what the new search is supposed to be doing. Is there a way to get rid of it?

I use Bing. Because I detest Google's politics.

The two words that have sold more shampoo than you and Merv combined:
rinse and repeat. Gotta love marketing genius.
Now with the extra 50 hours saved over the next 15 years, what are you gonna do with all that spare time ???
How about keeping Hillary out of office until she's 79 or so ?

Oops, there's a downside to all that time you save with faster Google searches: More Ads! From the Daily Beast:

Re: Google Unveils Its Big Announcement: "Google Instant"
I've never been bothered by Google's ads as I ignore them to the point of not noticing them at all. For that reason, I seriously question the efficacy of Google's ads and predict a day when managers of firms that advertise on Google think to themselves "wait a minute, if I don't even notice them, maybe customers don't either...". I love Google products and use them vociferously, but I am deeply pessimistic about the viability of Google's business model.
