Google Maps of Osama bin Laden's Compound. A Few Hours After the News Broke.

It's here, with some jokes already added.
I know I keep saying it, but this is an amazing thing. We get the news about his death an hour or so before the President can announce it himself. There's a guy on Twitter who is, unknowingly, live Tweeting about helicopters and explosions in Abbottabad. (He lives, apparently, near the police station and Osama bin Laden's compound.)
And now, a couple of hours later, we can see the whole thing on Google Maps.
I'm not sure what line, exactly, we've all crossed. But we've crossed it.

Indeed Rob, it's almost shocking that it took the online world about eight hours to find out the news in the first place.

Does anyone else take satisfaction from the fact that Bin Laden was killed by our troops, rather than by a bomb or missile he never heard?
And does anyone else take special satisfaction from the possibility that he had his hands up when one of our soldiers thought, "No, no, you bastard..." and pulled the trigger?

No, actually. I take my satisfaction from the idea that the dumbass actually refused to surrender, as if he had a chance of winning a fight with a Navy Seal. Years of watching pathetic political maneuvering and effete American politicians and diplomats probably had to convince Osama that we are a nation of wimps. After spending years safely behind those walls, imagine his shock as the Navy Seals rappelled down into the compound!
I am in awe of those men.

Our nephew is a SEAL. He was among 700 or so Marines and sailors who applied for openings with that elite unit. These were career military already in terrific physical condition. Only about a dozen made the final cut. The first night of training they had to lay on a shore and be beaten by breaking surf for an hour. It got harder after that. He travels all around the world, being trained or training others. Germany one week, Africa for a month, then down to Latin America. He was in Arkansas for a week last summer where his unit hunted razorbacks in the sweltering woods. They shot them and kept them alive for an hour, about the time it would take a helicopter to arrive to take away one of them if he was wounded. When they leave the service a well-paid life awaits in government and corporate security. George Soros' bodyguards are all former SEALS. Nothing but the best for George. They look out for each other in post-service life as much as when they were in harness together.
