As Paul Rahe always says, "Obama is the gift that keeps on giving."  Surely he has one cool-headed, rational adviser who sees that every time he opens his mouth, his popularity diminishes.  But the man just can't help himself.

I'm half-tempted to drunkblog this speech, but I only have 90 minutes to prepare.

I am happy to say that it would only be at the point of a gun that I would watch.  I trust someone will give me the short version.  I predict it will go along these lines:  Righteous indignation, people will die, I'm the adult, whine, people will die, whine, whine louder, big ending.

And tabula, the big question is will he ask us to eat our peas -- or will he perhaps choose another green vegetable?

You can combine it with a drinking game.  What are the drinking buzzwords and catch phrases?  Shall we say "revenues"; "fair share"; and..."on the backs of the middle class"?

Use "let me be clear."  ~Paules won't be standing after 15 minutes.

"Let me make this perfectly clear," was a catch-phrase of another President with fiscal and other challenges.

This may be what is so bad that Obama has rejected it and asked for air time.  At the best case, if this is an accurate summary, there are a maximum of $32 B in actual, near term cuts being proposed.  The rest of the "$1.1 T" in cuts are outyear, never gonna happen, stuff.  This is unsourced, but I'm just throwing it out there for discussion and wariness.  I gotta go feed kids and will be waiting for others to summarize the distortions from 1600.  I'll take a deep swig from a beer, now, to make up for what I will miss during the live-blog from the more intrepid.

Standard Wimpy Tuesday payment plan. Prepare for the "full faith and credit" of the U.S. to be downgraded without any real, substantial, structural changes in how the government spends our money. The actual cuts are barely a rounding error in this year's deficit. It's time for the government to hit its arbitrary borrowing ceiling and have to make the hard choices on what's worth paying for and what is not.

Drinking buzzwords? "I"

Then we'll read about the speech tomorrow to find out what he said.

It is so unpleasant listening to Obama B.S. us. I'm listening but it's awful.
