Given the track record of the writer, Bob Shrum, this bodes well for the next election cycle.

Indeed. Well-wisherism if ever I read any.

Re: Good News for 2012
Bill Clinton came back because he was a skilled politician and the Republicans overreached (and then caved). Obama is a talentless ideologue and the Republicans don't intend to repeat their mistakes. I think Shrum's losing streak is going to continue.

Re: Good News for 2012
Let's see here . . . we have California and New York standing on the brink of financial default. Iran is still busily working away on its nuclear program. We continue to intercept terrorist attacks aimed at the American mainland, but our luck might run out any day. You will notice that our president has yet to be truly tested by a crisis. Given the president's dithering on something minor like the Gulf oil spill, does anyone have confidence in the man when push finally meets shove?

Re: Good News for 2012
I sometimes wonder why Bob is still around given his dismal record, but it does affirm one's belief in the Peter Principle. From Publisher's Weekly came this description of his memoir: "A deep sense of disappointment pervades the book: Shrum's string of failed presidential campaigns led to talk of the 'Shrum curse,' which the author never managed to overcome." But I do like it when he and Mister Ed talk on MSNBC. It's the perfect storm of wide-body blowhards.

It's certainly possible. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and again.

Re: Good News for 2012
The problem is that California and NY alone are 76 EV. All he has to do is snooker a few more marginal places to accompany the deep blue states, with the aid of the media, while we have to pick up every other place, 3-10 EV at a time. We cannot afford the internecine warfare that we all too often engage in.
If the new Congress does a good job in restoring confidence in the economy, BO will take credit and benefit, and some may actually believe him.
Eternal vigilance.

Re: Good News for 2012
Seriously, what alternative universe is he living in?
Shrum: "Thus comes the easy criticism of his visit to India and elsewhere in Asia right after the results were in: He should have canceled to stay home and address the damage."
I'm not sure where he gets this stuff. I have yet to see anyone say he should have stayed home, though admittedly I don't read many lefty sites so it might have popped up somewhere else. Most of the criticisms from the right that I've seen have said (1) the India trip was long overdue (as were Obama's first meetings with his Afghanistan generals), and (2) its lack of results showed Obama really is an empty suit with no foreign policy expertise... just like his critics were saying during the entire 2008 campaign.
