The headlines today are so disturbing that I'd like to just stop reading them. The news from the Koreas is terrifying. The photos from Cambodia are unbearable. I've noticed about fifty awful stories that aren't even breaking page A32 in most newspapers, but should.

I don't think it's particularly useful for me to sit here contemplating all of this in horror, so for the next few hours, I'm going to put my mind elsewhere. Help me out. Post good news I might be missing. I'll start: Here's a report of dramatic new advances in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. How magnificent is that?

Not one negative word in this comment thread from anyone, please. We've got plenty of space elsewhere for that.

Good news only.

Happy day, Claire! Classical music is still being played, and according to the Classical Beat blogger at the WaPo (just the fact that they *have* someone who blogs about classical music is pretty ding-dang awesome), our local symphony orchestra is actually getting better. That's pretty great news. :-)

Motel 6 guest destroys room in Spartanburg

Visitor says caller told him to do it, then bust sheetrock to free small man next door

Yes, that was sufficiently good for a laugh that it qualified.

Wow, Nick--that's incredible. That says a lot about *you* and any other adult leaders. On behalf of the rest of us who benefit from having Eagle Scouts in the world, thank you for your dedication.

Qantas to resume flying Airbus A380 superjumbos

This is good news, if you happen to work for a company who supplies A380 parts, as I do.

You already reported on the good news:  Our Great Leader was not negotiating with the Taliban after all!  Whew!

On a more general good news-note, using the Cassini spacecraft's mission (Saturn and surrounding environs) as an example, we live in a special time in history Re: advances in astronomy, space exploration, et.al.  Even if the technical aspects of the mission don't turn you on, the images from http://www.nasa.gov>mission_pages/cassini/main/index.html should.

Hey, can you try that link again? It ... let's see, positive phrasing ... almost worked for me.

Wonderful -- thank you.

This is Toshiro. He and all his litter mates are alive and well and pigeon-watching on my window-sill right now. And YouTube has been un-banned.
