Good Morning, New York!
According to the clock, it's evening, but you know how jet lag goes; as far as I'm concerned, it's morning. It's morning in America, and man, am I happy and excited to be here!
Hey, you you what? This OWS stuff turns out to be nonsense. The way it looks from overseas, I figured I'd see riot police and communists everywhere. But everything looks normal. Everyone's acting normal. People look happy, in fact. So, I reckon it's much ado about nothing. That's so often the way it is.
I love speaking English. In fact, I'm going to go out now and speak to people in English. Maybe I'll go to a drug store. I love American drug stores. You have no idea how much fun it is to speak English in a drug store until you live in a place where English just doesn't get you very far. (Remind me one day to tell you the yeast-infection pantomime story. When I've had a few drinks. It's still a traumatic memory.)
Who wants to go to the Central Park zoo with me on Sunday? I know it's short notice, but since you all work, and since that's the only free weekend day I have, I think that's probably the best day to do it. You in?
PS: I don't care what the Israeli government thinks, these Christmas decorations are lovely. If it makes me a bad Jew to think so, color me traif.

Claire! I may be on the other side of the continent, but I feel better about the U.S. of A. just knowing you're back inside its borders. Welcome back.

Aw, come on, Claire. Have a couple virtual drinks, on me of course, and then regale us all with the story. You won't even remember telling us in the morning. ;-)
Re: Good Morning, New York!
Thanks! Here for about a week.
Re: Good Morning, New York!
You're so sweet. It's so good to be home.
Re: Good Morning, New York!
I'll tell you this much: If you know the words for "mushroom," and "fire," you're halfway there. But there is, apparently, a special word for things that take place in orifices. That, alas, I only learned when it was too late.

Trust you will enjoy the stay. For what its worth, Mexican pharmacies are an interesting experience at best. Visitations to a Doctor or Dentist here require and open mind. Oddly enough, they just flat out tell you the truth and get to it. None of the prolonged insurance funded visits. Rather refreshing that.
Enjoy all New York has to offer.

Re: Good Morning, New York!
We take so much for granted the image of the joy of speaking English in the Drug Store strikes me as utterly wonderful and fascinating. I've studied languages but never became anything like fluent enough to think for a prolonged period in Spanish or German or Latin but learning them a little bit did give me a greater appreciation for English. Actually thought I might be able to go the Pack Giants game this weekend in the Apple but could not get away. The Zoo with ya'll would be every bit as much fun. As Eddie Murphy says in Trading Places, "welcome to America, mon"

Re: Good Morning, New York!
New York has a zoo? Do you mean the Stock Exchange?
It's funny that you are only just home and already talking about visiting a place with specimens from all over the world. Nothing says "I'm home" like pandas and orangutans.
Welcome home, Claire.
Will you try to avoid geopolitical discussions and relax? Or is that your idea of an enjoyable evening with family?

Re: Good Morning, New York!
You missed the multi-city crackdowns by a few days. The NYC occupiers were booted out 2 weeks ago, but you could probably go down to Zucotti park and gawk at the stragglers if you like.
It probably looked more exciting in the foreign press because, whenever there is some action, the journalists and camera-wavers tend to outnumber the police presence by 2:1.
Re: Good Morning, New York!
Welcome home, Claire. I had forgotten how exciting it can be to hear people speaking in English, for a change. Your enthusiasm brings back wonderful memories of homecomings.

Nineteen comments and no one is going to the zoo? I can make it, Claire. What time and where do you want to meet? After the zoo we can stroll down Fifth Avenue, take in a few Christmas windows, gaze at the Rock Center Christmas tree. Come on NY Ricoteers! Claire's IN town! Let's do it up!
